Play offs?

Created by: GMTD
Team: 2018-19 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 4, 2018
Published: Jul. 4, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Compare the team Botterill inherited with the current:

Kane >>> Sheary
O'Reilly >> Mittelstadt
Lehner/ Nielson < Hutton/Ullmark
Foligno < Berglund
Moulson << Pominville
Ennis < Sobotka
Deslauriers =< Wilson
Carrier/Grant << Rodrigues
Kulikov > Beaulieu
Franson < Scandella
Georges <<<< Dahlin
How do you see it?
If that 2016-'17 team could get to 81 pts, I would think that now the cancer is gone, this team should be able to do better.

I will start the season giving Beaulieu and Pominville as much quality ice time as possible. The plan is t show case them and try to increase their value.

I am trading away Baptiste because I think he will fit well with McDavid and I cannot keep both him and Bailey.

Before the end of the TDL Botterill will trade, Beaulieu, Hunwick and Pominville. Nelson, Pilut or Guhle will be ready. One of Nylander, Olofsson, Thompson or Asplund will be ready to replace Pominville.

Rights to Nick Baptiste. Baptiste was McDavid's Erie Otter line mate. Chiarelli makes a small investment hoping for big returns. If Baptiste scores 20 or more goals or 50 or more pts in the 2018-2019 season the 5th becomes a 3rd. If Baptiste scores 60 or more goals over the next 3 seasons (2018-2021), an additional 2nd is added in the 2021 draft.

OMW, I hope you are wrong. I think Botterill is a genius. Do you agree with my comparisons? He has completely turned this team around in one year and had returned the team to having a bright future with 3 first round draft picks next year.

I don't really like this idea with the value Beaulieu and Pominville, but otherwise I agree.

I just realized I did not include Rodrigues. I guess I left him off because that was actually a DATM acquisition not a Betterall laugh .

    I decided to add him.

I do agree that they are looking way better now but I think there is still more work to be done. But you never know. Plenty of teams have squeaked in to the playoffs before anyone expected them to. I think the Sabres will be pretty good again in a couple of years if they keep doing what they're doing.

I agree, it would be reach to make the playoffs. I think their ceiling is about 90 pts, but they will be in the hunt for most of the season. IMO in addition to trading, and drafting poorly DATM focused too much on the top end of the line up and drained the depth out of the team, for example, Buffalo had 4 players with 20 or more goals, more than Boston, Washington, or Colorado who all finished among the to ten in team goals. Botterill, IMO is giving adequate attention to the top, but the bottom six is going to be much stronger next year.

I agree, with Beaulieu and change the direction of the >. If I instead compare Pominville to Moulson and Berglund to Foligno we will agree on that. I will make that change now.
