Trades
VAN
  1. 2019 1st round pick (TOR)
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
If Tanev plays 60+ games in 2019 or if the Leafs make it to the conference finals in 2019 then the 2020 3rd becomes a 2020 1st
TOR
  1. Tanev, Christopher ($2,225,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Canucks maximize Tanev's trade value by retaining 50%. Pretty sure he'll take a discount to re-sign at home once his contract expires. He'll be a lot closer to his brother too (in terms of travel distance).

Exactly! And maybe a conditional 2nd!

Yes, they can. And if they can't, it's not costing this much

Ignore the 2019 2nd. I added that by accident.

Two firsts for Tanev is way too much. That is getting into Karlsson territory and Tanev is about a 3rd the defenceman Karlsson is and that is being very kind.

That being said, I would send a first and a non roster prospect not named Liljegren for Tanev, maybe throw in another asset (3rd rounder that may upgrade to a second if he resigns) if they retain half the salary for the next 2 season.

Two firsts is way too much though. Its just not worth it at that point.

3rd jumping to a 1st is to much maybe if it jumped to a 2nd maybe that would work...
So a 1st and 3rd which could become a 1st and 2nd but still 50% retrained...
Maybe...

3rd to a 1st isn't too much IMO considering the Leafs success will lead to these picks being late anyways

I doubt Dubas will be shopping a first rounder unless it is for a number one RHD that has no injury problems that could keep him out of the lineup

Teams do not make trades with long term trade conditions. It affects their ability to trade in the future. Leafs probably can't afford Gardiner in 2019/20 due to cap reasons. Having Tanev at 4.4m might be unaffordable too.
Leafs will have to go cheap or rather cost efficient in 2019/20 on their defence or else one of their top five forwards will have to be traded.
Despite my pleas, Canucks fans cannot find another trade partner for Tanev, which lessens his trade value even more.

The conditional pick is 2020 but the conditions are based upon the upcoming season. Key word is "fans" can't find another trade partner. I think irl JB will keep Tanev until the deadline at least.

Think you're right about TDL trade. Tanev trade value will be highest if he's healthy and playing well.

how tf is this trade getting into karlsson territory?? SMH . Buddy karlsson worth more than a first and a conditional third

Your conditions if they are met, would net the Canucks 2 1st rounders. That is an insane price to pay for Tanev. Karlsson is going to get Ottawa likely a 1st, a 2nd, an NHLer and a top prospect. You're asking for 2 firsts which would be close to the same value as a 1st and top prospect for a guy that is a 10th the value of Karlsson.

Trim that back by at least 50% and then we can have a conversation.
