the only player it could make sense to trade McDavid for is Dahlen is he lives up to the hype, but even then it would still be a bad Idea

Now? Yes

In his prime? What a joke. Are you under 13 years old?

First of all everyone was producing more back then...second of all Crosby had much better line mates whereas McDavid is doing it mostly on his own.

Sid is still better. Every year people wanna say sid is the 2nd best. First it was "who is better Crosby or Toews" then it was "who is better Crosby or Stamkos" then "Crosby or Ovechkin". Now its Crosby or McDavid. Until Crosby drops off, he's the best in the NHL

You're a homer. That is SO false. I would 100% rather have McDavid than Crosby at any time over their career.

That's fine. Ill take the guy who has won pretty much every trophy in hockey that there is. By the way, McDavid is 42% in face-offs in his career, Crosby is at 52% lmao

It's a sad state that Crosby has left his physical prime and is still a better player than McDavid in his prime.

But here is the really issue with the McDavid or Crosby argument. Crosby got to be the best with skill, hand eye coordination and the Mental aspect of the game along with a lot of hard word. He's known as a grinder, he'll get in front of the next and work below the goal.

McDavid got to be number 2 on his speed. No one will ever say of McDavid he's a grinder. At least not at this point in his career. He may never pick that aspect of the game up, as he relies on his speed way to much. Crosby will be able to play his game till he's 35 and still be a very effective player if he so chooses. Will McDavid?
Once his speed starts to taper off and the rest of the league catches up to him as the league is getting faster, his advantage will be neutralized. He'll still be a good player but no one will confuse him for being the best. I think you started to see that last year. The league gets faster and he gets neutralized. With in 5-6 years he will start to slow down, all studies show you hit your physical peek between 24-26. That's why they say player get on the wrong side of 30. You start to slow down before that, but it starts becoming really evident past 30. Even Crosby has slowed down, but because of how his game is, it's not a huge issue for him. No one can say that about McDavid. He doesn't have the same level of hand eye coordination, eye for the game, nor does he grind for the puck. You can work on his game and change it, but he will never get that level of hand eye coordination, it's natural, you either have it or you don't.

This is why many people, myself included think Mathews is actually the better of the two. He doesn't beat you with speed. He beats you with his skill and his body. His game is more inclined to last as he ages.

So would I trade Crosby for McDavid, Maybe, McDavid has probably 6-7 years left in him, but Crosby has at least 4 left in him too. And at the moment, he's still the better player. I would rather trade for Mathews.

Well McDavid is much faster and more dynamic, and makes chances by himself more.

Very detailed and well thought out post, and I respect that. However with that being said I disagree with most of what you wrote. I truly believe that McDavid is the best player of the 21st century...and he can be in form until he is at least 35.

Faster and dynamic ya ill give you that. But Crosby isn't exactly slow himself. Crosby was much more dynamic when he was younger. He scored goals while sliding and on his back.

McDavid is a faster player, there is no doubt about that. But hockey isn't just about speed. You will slow down eventually. Everyone does. It starts in your upper 20s.
But you can't seriously believe McDavid has a higher level of hand eye coordination than Crosby. He simply doesn't. It's not even close. Crosby's hand eye is off the charts. That's where the skill part of hockey comes from.
It's why many people like Mathews better. Mathews has really good hand eye coordination.
McDavid few into a slow league and looked like the flash. That's changing. The game is getting harder for him. But when your hand eye coordination is off the charts the game never really gets harder for you. You always look like a super hero playing with mere mortals.

I mean, even if the idea of trading for McDavid wasn't ludicrous (it is) you're also getting back the better draft picks lol

Fair enough. However speed is the most important asset in today's game. McDavids speed is off the charts and being able to add a whole lot of skill to that is insane. Yes, Crosby has the best hands in the league. However I just think that McDavids speed/skill combo triumphs over Crisbys speed/skill combo. However you very well may be right that Crosby will be a good player for longer. I respect your opinion tho

P.S don't talk to me about Austin...I do not even think he is a top 25 player in this league.

Im not arguing of who is better but your statement of "everyone was producing more back then" is false. The only season in Crosby's career before Mcdavid was drafted that more goals per game were scored compared to this year was in Sid's rookie year. 2005-2006: 3.08 Highest GPG between 2006-2015: 2.95 2017-2018: 2.97
