Just what EDM needs: $12m tied up in Backes + Lucic for the next 3 years.

Easy pass from VGK

don't need another center and we're not breaking up our best line

Krejci is a good player but doesn't fit in VGK, also....again....we're not moving smith

No donato? And the left side of that d is very questionable. Lastly keep Backes, trade krejci for that package of picks instead

I stopped after you signed Seguin. He's not coming back to Boston after the way he was treated post trade. Kid went from being cheered and loved by B's fans to Boo'd in his return with Dallas because of some hack writers who wanted to drag him through the mud.

That wasn't mud, it was a SH** storm, I would argue that they didn't write about real reason he was shipped out of town. Out of respect for the player he took a dump on.

you forget how hated reilly smith was when he was here. he got trashed all the time and then they trade him for a pile of crap. Same with seguin. the bruins trashed him going out the door why would he want to come back.

I think the package was a little lite, but at the time I don't think it looked as bad as it did now and here's why...

Eriksson - consistent 70+ point producer with a more well rounded two-way game and was a $1.5 million less cap hit. No one expected his offensive to deteriorate as fast as it did

Smith - coming off a solid NCAA career and had a solid first pro season in the AHL. He did manage 51pts his first year with us. Honestly I'm not sure why he fell out of favor with Boston Brass. I know what I didn't like, but it wasn't enough to trade him

Morrow - Former 1st rounder with a ton of upside, but just never panned out. At the time of the deal he was the 2nd best piece of the deal

Fraser - Another guy who had a solid few season in the AHL pre trade. He was that 3rd/4th line fringe AHL guy in the deal.

So all in all you traded a still unknown in Seguin for a guy who consistently put up 70+ points, former 1st rounder and a few mid prospects. Was it a great return even then? meh, but looking at it now it was a horrible trade for Boston. Lets also not forget that along with Seguin, Boston cleared about $3.25 million in Peverley's contract.

I respectfully disagree. yes seguin was a bit unknown but what wasnt unknown was his offense was being seriously hampered by playing him out of position and playing in claudes over defensive system. watching that kid every night it was easy to see where he was going. I would have been happy with a larger piece return than just more pieces. Ericsson is a good guy but Morrow was already traded once before and fraser was never a serious piece. smith I like and I still like and he got an unfair shake here. I didn't like it when they did it and its even worse when you look at it now. the bruins always trade the best piece for pieces. Its not as bad as the thornton trade, sorry marco sturm, but its bad.

Ok so there you go. You're options are either to change your entire system to benefit Seguin or move Seguin and get players that fit your system. Now mind you at the time CJ had helped Boston reach 2 SCF in 3 years and won 1. As management, are you going to change the player or the coach/system.

no im not disagreeing with their right to move the player. although with someone so talented I think you atleast try and maximize the player. its the return for him that's the problem.

Fair enough, but what if that was the best offer they got?

As far as trying to maximize the player, I would have loved for them to ride it out and get him back on track, but its possible he never would have in Boston. Honestly it was panic move by Boston. If reports/rumors are true about Seguin overseas, partying during the playoffs and nailing a teammates wife would you really want to keep that around your locker room? At the time too Boston was considered in their prime so maybe they felt like they need a more proven asset to make runs...obviously that didn't happen lol

Weirdly enough, the stupid seguin stuff isn't the dumbest part of it....it's the mcavoy contract and the Carlo contract.

You're just ready to bring Carlo to UFA status pretty soon huh? sign him for 3 or 8, nowhere in between.

Charlie for 4, come on?
