If I’m Sakic, I’m holding that pick right up until the draft to see how desperate OTT gets. And even then, I’m very content to keep the pick.

OTT is an absolute tire fire.

Honestly Ottawa is one of those teams that’s just going to be good for no reason.

Agree 100%, let Ottawa mope. Also, no Timmons or Makar in the lineup? Surely one of them makes the roster.

True but there is also a thing called the lottery so Colorado isn't guaranteed Hughes even if Ottawa goes 0-82 next year.

yeah very true but they are still guaranteed a top 2 In the scenario right? ......and they were a solid team last year this pick only helps them and that young core

Actually they could technically although less likely, go down to 4th I believe..... Look at this:

okay I wasn't sure....still a top 4 pick isn't a terrible thing.....thank you for that site

I honestly thought you couldn't go lower than the 2nd...that sucks but I guess its a good way to make sure a team doesn't lose on purpose

Lol YES! People don't understand the Lottery system on here.

OTT roster isn't has bad as people make it out to be. Especially if Karlsson plays until the trade deadline. I will shoooook if they finish last. Either way, it's a deep draft, outside Hughes, it's pretty wide open and teams will be getting good players throughout the entire first round.

Ottawa absolutely are as bad as people make them out to be haha. I think it’s a top 5 pick easily and that’s puts the Avs in prime position to build on the youth and talent that they already have. Picking top 5 means immediate impact player, Avs will take it.

Also if they keep EK until the trade deadline, that hurts OTT even more because teams know they have the bargaining power and OTT gets a locker room with a guy who doesn’t want to be there. Ask Colorado how that worked for them with Duchene.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you don't follow the sens. There are teams in far worst positions (NYI, MTL, CAR, BUFF, ARZ)

Karlsson was literately in Ottawa all summer training with the team. It's pretty clear that the reason why he doesn't have a contract is that the sens (Melnyk) are refusing to offer him Doughty money (Major Signing Bonuses because of potential lockouts). https://theathletic.com/430661/2018/07/13/lack-signing-bonuses-may-have-been-factor-in-erik-karlsson-turning-down-senators-contract-offer/

Also, it's his contract year, he's going to show up. AND Bargain power? omg, the difference between now and March 1st is that instead of having 4 teams interested in Karlsson, there is going to be 16 playoff teams in a bidding war trying to add the best rental anyone has ever seen. And if Tatar gets you a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd....... Imagine what Karlsson gets you at the deadline...

Also, doesn't matter.. 1) Duchene is a really good player. 2) Sens have a surplus of good prospect coming up the pipeline 3) As long as it's not Hughes, which is extremely unlikely, that OTT 1st rounder isnt a big deal.

just a curve ball what if he gets hurt around march 1st and you don't get anything for him and he leaves for nothing.......benefit of trading him now

also you'd have to be dumb to think a top 5 pick isn't a big deal.....or just down playing that value......

I'll curve ball your curveball, Karlsson get's his other Achilles sliced, he's out for 1 year. No teams want to gamble on him. He comes back to OTT on an extremely friendly contract and makes a full recovery in 2 years.

Let's not play the what if game.

And obviously top 5 picks are valuable, but none of these prospects are slam dunk picks and do not guarantees you an elite player (except for Hughes). People put a lot of emphasis on potential which isn't tangible. Everyone is quick to forget that Duchene is a proven top 6 forward with amazing skill.

even if he gets injured I highly doubt teams are going to pass on him....... and duchene is good but he's not a #1 center he's a really good #2 guy they are going to struggle and thats okay.....but I don't see them fairing well the play 30% of there games vs tor Boston and Tampa .....30% is a rough guess I assume divisional games the up about that
