Scary part is that that team is definitely a bottom 3 team in the NHL. I'd start begging COL for that first round pick back...

As crazy as it sounds, it'd be better to try to be competitive for 2018-19 so that pick isn't too high.

Or re-acquire the 2019 1st by trading high-quality assets and kill two birds with one stone.

Why would you pass up on a potential trade that could shape your team for years to come for the purpose to "stay competitive"? To get back at COL? That would be very piety and childish by OTT mgt.

My guess is they already know the pick is going to a NY team. There is no way the league can let both NY teams totally suck. It's the largest US market.

If they were to re-acquire it they not only get a high-end draftee but also trade off some of their valuable pieces (Karlsson? Stone? Duchene?) etc.

Getting a top pick and blowing it up. Two birds, one stone.
