Irony is if they matched, you could do the same for Marner and they wouldn't have the cap space to be able to match

Agreed. Just trying to put them in as much cap trouble as possible.

Honestly I'm surprised no one did it with Nylander yet

It’s because there isn’t actually that much to gain. If you look at the numbers he will fal between $6.5-$7.5 over 7 years which means that a team is giving up like two first round picks, a second and a third for him. So if he doesn’t make a crucial difference then it doesn’t offer enough for the team signing him.

I know but 3 teams offer sheet Nylander, Marner and Matthews at 12.5 mil per for x amount of years and they don't have the cap to match, make them regret the tavares signing

Somebody is likely too. Doubt he signs with Habs though.

It’s too bad offer sheets never happen anymore. Personally I don’t think Matthews gets offer sheeted, but I think a Marner could get one. I think Toronto is looking at ~$8M AAV for Marner. If a team is willing to spend the money on him, they could offer him anywhere from $8.1M-$10.1M, giving up 2 1sts, a 2nd, and a 3rd (Bochum I think is an underpayment), and really put Toronto in a tough spot.

I should say: if any of their premier young players would get one, I think it would be Marner

Even if was 1.5m more than Leafs were offering, I doubt if Matthews would go to Montreal anyways. Now Arizona maybe even the Rangers...if they put in an offer sheet, maybe Matthews signs it.

IMO we will see more offer sheets. Up to 8.1m for five years, just 1st,2nd and 3rd. Not that much to give up especially if the picks are projecting to be in the 20s of each round.

I love how fans of pretty much every team think that offer sheets work automatically, as if players just sign them as soon as they are offered up. The player would have to ask their agent to pursue offer sheets before anyone can just start throwing them around. Also if all these offer sheets are coming, why hasn't Nylander signed one of the 30 that are coming? Habs need to rebuild, your team isn't good enough, hasn't been good enough since 93 and won't be good enough for the next 8 years.
