That Skinner trade was awful, but if it can be parlayed into this I would feel better.

Don't see why it would be massive overpayment for Nylander. By the deal posted it would seven years of Nylander for two years of Faulk plus the picks.
I know folks think the Leafs are so desperate for Dmen....they're not. Does Faulk really fit the Leafs need as defensive competent Dman?

I don't think Nylander is worth that much more than Faulk.
Nylander hasn't been able to play Centre in the nhl and looks to be more of a winger.
Dman are worth more than wingers in the nhl.
I would think Faulk and maybe a 3rd would get you nylander

Do not mistake Babs unwillingness to play him at center as a fault on Nylander. Nylander played center his first call up the tail end of a season at center and did very well. When Mathews was out and they moved him to center last year he looked very solid for someone that hasn't really played the position since the Marlies. Its very easy to read everyone's opinions on here and take them as fact. The reality about Nylander is he played pro over seas as a kid at center and did a fantastic job. Not only can he play center, but eventually I think he will.

While i'm not denying that. If you are the opposing GM making a deal with Toronto for Nylander you treat his value like a winger. that is where they are playing him so that is what his value would reflect. Also when Matthews was hurt last year they played Marleau at Center instead of Nylander.

Skinner is a better player than Faulk. You'll get Bracco a 2nd and a 5th at best for Faulk at this point.

When Mathews was out for that 10 day stretch with the concussion you're right, but they did play Nylander at center near the end of the season when Mathews was nursing that shoulder crunch. And even if you are selling him as a winger, you're selling a 22 year old that has had back to back 60 point seasons playing all up and down the line up. In a league where secondary scoring is scarce and sometimes primary, who doesn't want a sure thing 60 point guy with a 70-90 point ceiling.

When talking to non Leaf fans, they seem to think ANY RHD is so valuable that the Leafs HAVE to trade for him. Faulk likely would be an improvement over Carrick/Oghikov/Holl this year but at what cost. It's rather silly for the fourth or fifth best Dman on Carolina to be worth so much.

Honestly, and people are going to rip my head of for this, but there are only about 5 defense in the league that are worth Nylander and Marner. People need to stop thinking we are going to give up elite talent to fill a hole that we aren't terrible on. I say we let our offensive core tear up and see where we are at the deadline.
