Boston - Colorado overpays, just based on player value. Zadorov is a bright up-and-comer for he Avalanche. He played on the top pair for a majority of last season, and is a solid top 4 defenseman already at age 23. Meloche is a B prospect, and the picks on top of all that tip the scales way towards the Bruins. That being said, I dont think the trade fits either team particularly well. Krug is a really important part of Boston’s blue line, and the Avalanche already have similar players in Barrie and Girard.
Florida - Colorado is in the market for some forward help. I’m not sure Bjugstad is the answer though. They have a ton of center in their organization, and want to see how those guys do this season before they make a major trade for a forward. I think it’s likely they look for a top six winger next summer.
Philadelphia - The Varlamov situation is interesting. They have Grubauer signed for three years, so he’s part of the long-term plan. If Varlamov plays well, maybe they resign him and run with a tandem, or maybe he goes to UFA. All that being said, I don’t think Philadelphia is a fit for him. They have two goalies under NHL contracts, and Star prospect Carter Hart is going to have an opportunity to make the team as well.
