Leafs would prefer the cap space than to take Perry in a trade.

Idk man, he is only going to be playing for 4 mil which may means 3 mil in extra space which could be the difference between Arizona getting Matthews or the leafs getting him. Arizona has so much cap and he has incentive to go there because it’s his home. All they would have to give up is their firsts for the next 4 years and lots of 2nds/3rds.

This is laughable, Matthews goes no where. Certainly not to Arizona on an offersheet. I don’t think they can afford him at market value.

I mean technically AZ could probly figure it out but the reason no one gets offer sheeted is that it costs so much in picks and cap space. There’s little space to improve your team if you offer sheet the players deserving of it.

Yea its cool to play for your home and all, but the market in Toronto loves Matthews and I think he enjoys it too. Different life styles Toronto Vs Arizona and I think with his age and the "swagger" he has, he'll prefer to stay in a bigger market.

As a Ducks fan, I love it. As a Leafs fan, I hate it.

Any trade moving even half of Corey Perry off the books is likely to blind me to all other aspects of the transaction, but I don't think Toronto needs the resulting cap hits.

Yeah, but don't forget the additional cap hit from Manson, too. This transaction is the financial equivalent of signing Nylander for $8M.

True, the leafs could throw in Horton and they could take out the retained cap on perry and manson
