Description

Here’s my guess for a Nylander trade, in case anyone is taking bets. I’m sure this has been suggested already by someone - not an intentional repost. The roster below is what the Leafs could look like long-term. The 10-14th forwards and 7th defenseman are hard to predict.

The rumor mill says the Hurricanes and Maple Leafs have discussed Nylander, so this isn’t out of left field.

Carolina would get a young scoring forward with huge upside to add to Aho, Teravainen, Svechnikov, Necas, etc. It’s tough to predict how that lineup would shake out.

Toronto gets a top-four, right-shot, shut-down defenseman on a good contract to (theoretically) play with Rielly, plus a young forward to take Nylander place on the roster.

Probably what would happen, maybe a pick but if it doesn’t happen in the next 2 days then this would work. I would love seeing a number 29 in a canes jersey

Not a good trade for Toronto. Nylander has 80+ point potential and is only 22. He is the best player in this deal. If these are the types of deals being thrown at Nylander then they are better off signing and playing him. Nylander is a super skilled player.

If Foegele truly is a second line winger, then the Canes have overpaid. As a Leaf fan, I would take that trade. Still Nylander has to be signed by the Leafs before any trade is made.

Or the Leafs will just keep Nylander because it makes way more sense. Pesce isn't good enough to warrant trading Nylander and unless you are adding a player who has the potential of being a top 6 player with a high ceiling it's a bad deal. Which is why this hasn't happened, according to McKenzie, the Leafs said Slavin is the starting point and I don't think Carolina is keen on that.
