Well Id say Matthews would take a Tavares contract so that saves 1.343434 million.

Rd still an issue. But hainsey replaced with Liljegren a big improvement. And dermott playing more should make up for loss of the dramatically undervalued Gardiner. Lots of money the next year to sign somebody.

Went up 4.5 this year. Why so sure it will go up less not more?

Possible. I'm hoping Marner takes 8 also. Would love to save enough to resign Gardiner.

Cap won't go that high and even if it does you need more than 500k to spare so you can make roster moves during the season

Doubt Kapanen would sign that. He is in pace for 50+ points. Probably will get a $3,5M for 3yrs deal.

Again, why won't it go up at least the amount it did this year?

And will be playing 3rd or 4th line rest of the year. I think most likely he gets traded.

You say it's a big improvement but Liljegren still hasn't played in the NHL. As far as signing someone, the player has to make it to UFA first. Doesn't happen often.

I say liljegren will be a big improvement over hainsey. Didn't say will be better overall. But once Marleau is off the cap will be able to trade for or sign a competent rd. Or maybe liljegren or Sandin earn it. Too far to predict.

Because that's what's pretty much being reported, Granted it went up by $4.5 million this year. Doesn't mean it will happen next year. When Bettman said it would be $79.5 million for the 2018/2019 season. It was pretty much reported that it would be $82.5 million for the 2019/2020 season.

Reported by who? I follow all the insiders. The only thing I've heard is that if Toronto goes deep into the playoffs it'll go up even more.

I don’t think they need Gardiner, he’s more of a liability to the team. But I do hope Marner takes less though

I honestly don't think there's room for Gardiner to play unless move one of the LD to their off side. Dermott is too good to be on the 3rd pairing. I respectfully disagree about Gardiner though. Every stat shows that despite the occasional brain lapse giveaway, he's one of the top D in the league. The first month this year was poor, but last month he was better than Reilly besides points. By far.

Cap won't go up that much and Kap won't take $2M...that's a joke. He at least gets $3M and likely $3.5M.

Way to read. A) cap went up 4.5 million Las year, why won't it go up the same amount? B) Kap will likely spend the rest of the year on the 3rd or 4th line. He'll be lucky to double his points the rest of the year.

A) Cap is pretty much a lock for $82 or $82.5 is everything the experts have been saying. You are literally the first person I've seen suggest $84.
B) Dzingel does it on a worst 3rd line. Are you suggesting Nylander's stats last year are inflated too?

They can replace him though. For cheaper, or pay someone else more (with nylander money) that can do double what gardiner could do

A) please show me a link where they talk 82. The only thing I’ve seen is where Elliot Friedman reported the October governors meeting was told by bettman the cap is likely to be between 81.5 and 85.5. Midpoint would be 83.5. Pretty close to my 84. So don’t be so uppity without showing evidence. And yes I think Nylander’s numbers are inflated playing with Matthews. Anybody who can shoot the puck or pass the puck would be (I.e. not Hyman). Doesn’t mean he’s not worth 7 million. But would he still put up as many points entering his own line or playing with Kadri? Unlikely.

B) I hope Kap does awesome. I just don’t see him keeping it up. And again, I’m thinking he is prime trade bait.

I’m unsure what you mean by pay somebody more with Nylander money (implying a trade?). But no way anybody in the league gives double what Gardiner can do. If you were to do blind hero charts, or blind advanced stat charts, Gardiner holds his own against nearly everybody in the league except in top end point production.

Canadian dollar is still down and that plays hell with the cap. 83 million is the most the cap goes up. So you have a problem. Also no way Kap has played this year he takes 1 year at anyth ling less than 3.5 million.

Hey, look at that. The head of The Athletic NHL division just posted an article this morning about the Nylamder impact...where he puts next year’s cap at 84 million. An actual reporter, working for the best sports writing organization.

Also, try reading a comment. I said I think Kap more likely to get traded than signed. And...Dubas will have to squeeze the non big 3 hard to fit under the cap, so If Kap and Johnsson want bigger deals will have to sit out like a Nylander did. Will they have the cohones to do that when not getting a big contract? I doubt it.

I think that in time he will for sure be better than an old hainsey. First season I’m not sure but once he gets his feet under him he will be fine. It’s just hard to predict who his partner will end up being and what pairing he ends up on
