The leafs offload a contract for another bad contract (Absolutely terrible without retention) and get a much worse player? Don't see it as likely. Why would the flyers take a worse pick too lol

TOR needs all the money they can get...they have big signings to make. Now Zaitsev and Alzner have both quite big contracts. In my opinion, Zaitsev is the better one of the two... They could do a D-swap with Habs retaining half of the worse one's salary... Alzner as $2M D isn't that bad in my opinion, and MTL would also get a better D in their roster. Win-win for both of them imo.

And as said about the draft picks in the description, just ignore them, they are there just because I like to fit teams with their own picks. Maybe it's weird.

Didn't notice the caption, my bad haha.

I can't see a scenario where Dubas (A heavy analytics guy) is willing to take Alzner (one of the worst players in the NHL in that Feat). I feel as though some team would at least bite on a low draft pick for Zaitsev without retention, but even if not, the leafs likely give a pick/prospect before taking another player paid more than their value.

I don't get the Petry trade. Trading a competent NHLer with term for a upcoming UFA. That is a dreadful trade for the Leafs . Having a 2.3m contract in the minors....he couldn't play on at LHD now or next year. Leafs are trying to get stronger for playoffs not weaker.

Extension could be a part of the trade. That was my idea at least.

And where it comes to Alzner, I just think what he needs is a change of scenery. Everything has gone wrong in MTL...he went from a solid TOP4 D in a cup team to a bottom-5 team in the league...which ended up in a total failure. I think he still has something to prove himself...if he can find his level that he played in WSH, and gets paid only $2M, I think TOR would win this trade, big time. It's a risky move.

You do realize that in 3 years there's an expansion draft coming? Why would MTL spend assets for anything other than picks/draft protected prospects?

To strengthen their teams, of course...

And with that logic, no team should do any trades whatsoever...

I think Petry gets more right now , he's playing well at the moment. This is great for the Habs, they get to trade him at his peak if thats what they choose. I think they would want more than a guy like Silverberg.

Well if you want to get a solid first line LHD, it's close to being a must...

Muzzin = to big and slow for a Speed based system (see Alzner , see Benn )

Zaitsev= horrible contract on a player who's declined consistently since his debut in the NHL and his buyout is 5 times worse then Alzner and you're asking us to give up assets for a ****tier player who isnt even a LD ?

Weber ,Petry ,Juulsen,Fleury ,Brook ..... where does Zaitsev fit in long term as right now having Petry and Weber is screwing our youth longterm but adding frigging a useless Russian to a team with a coach that hate's russians makes no sense . . .

to take Zaitsev MTL would need Minimum a 2nd pick or an A level prospect and a late pick .
ZERO chance we take on 5 years of that horrible player we'd be screwed until he's 33 and have a REALLY old RD base with no room for Brook who's so good moving Petry is a serious thought for MTL

i like Silvferberg as he's the ONLY trade you made that got us a player who fits our system and Claude Julien could Utilize.

Zaitsev is so bad though like next lets trade our 2019 1st for Phaneuf LMFAO

Theres a difference between a 21-22 years old top line LHD and Muzzin whos almost 30. The only way that first comes into play in a package deal is if a guy like Bean or Brannstrom etc is included

My point is contenders that already have protection issues (NSH, TBL, CBJ, WPG) that will need a bailout trade to get Seattle to ignore their core players could consider adding core players, but bubble teams that are rebuilding on the fly and that do not already have difficult choices to make like MTL definitely shouldn't overlook the long term picture. What's the point of adding let's say Muzzin if it doesn't buy a trip to the finals, and then 3 years from now you loose either Mete, Juulsen or a first to get Seattle to pick somebody else?
