That deal isn't really arguable. I think if Montreal is looking towards the future, it works well for both sides.

????????????????????????????????????????

U aren’t even getting ONE 1st for Petry,
let alone TWO

WOW

Sabres GM is on record saying he’ll only trade one of the 1sts if it’s for a YOUNG, cost controlled player
Now that might change for someone like Pat Kane, or Benn/Seguin...
but Petry is FAR from the caliber player that will make him change his mind

Best you’d get from Buffalo for him would be a prospect & pick (not in the 1st)

TWO 1st rounders... good grief

Top 10 dman for points & hit in the league... that’s worth a 1st and a good prospect

If that were true, then u wouldn’t be moving him
He’s not a top pair defenseman,
yet u want a return for him like he is

It’s not a video game

Man you don’t even know who’s Jeff Petry. Montreal have Weber(33) Petry(30) Juulsen(21)Fleury(20)Brook(19). Juulsen’s NHL ready, Fleury & Brook will be ready in 2 years. Too many RHD. Petry’s value superhigh right now. This trade deadline or next year trade deadline, he will be trade.

Just bc u have extra defensemen doesn’t mean you’ll get that great of a return for him
If u thought he was actually a Top Pair defenseman,
then you’d have slotted him there on this roster

Only way he even gets ONE first is if there’s a bidding war for him
MAYBE that happens
But it surely won’t be an inner division deal
And u surely won’t get TWO firsts

And you’re just expecting way too much for a good,
2nd pair guy

Who’s the last guy that got TWO 1sts?
The last i can think of (off the top of my head) is Kessel
Petry just isn’t in that realm of player
Not even close

Petry is pretty good and having a great season, but I don't think the Sabres give up two firsts for him

wow, this might be one of the worst trades I've seen on here ever. Among the many things wrong with this trade...

1. Botts won't move a pick for an older player (He's not Tim Murray), Petry is on the wrong side of 30 so this doesn't fit with the Sabres core.

2. You want to buy low on players, not high. This is poor asset management.

3. Giving up a 1st alone for this player would be an overpayment. He is having a career year and has only broken the 40 point mark once in his 9 year career to date. I'm not saying he isn't having a great year but players around his age typical see there play decline rapidly after they turn 31.

Petry’s like Blake Wheeler, he’s a late. He was bad in Edmonton, Montreal got him for a 2rd pick & a 4th round pick. Blake Wheeler wasn’t good before the 2 last seasons. Petry’s in is prime right now. Since Weber got injured & have to be #1 defense for Montreal, is game have improved. He’s going to a 60+ points seasons. If Montreal trade him, it will looks like Pacioretty trade. ( little less )

You're cherry picking one player out of the entire NHL and comparing the 2. To be honest they are not alike; they don't even play the same position. Sure he could be a so called "late bloomer" but the fact of the matter is Petry is 31 and you will not be likely to get the production out of him that is necessary to justify the price tag of 2 first rounder's (or even one 1st rounder), which is why its a ridiculously lopsided purposed trade. For reference an Auston Matthews offer sheet would net 4 1st rounder's. Blows my mind people would even consider this type of deal smh.

If we're going to cherry pick players why not compare him to Alex Goligoski. He's slightly older but has been much more consistent over his career; and there is no world in which a GM would trade one 1st rounder let alone 2 for him.
