Will be tough to give up Johansen, he has real potential, but with 300 other good LHD it might be worth it. Good value for both teams. Don't know if LA would eat that much. maybe a bit less than $1M.

I'd hate to see Jeff go, as he's an essential part of our history, but this is an excellent exchange for the Kings. It addresses two positional needs and adds youth. Well thought out!

I'd be more interested in Nate Thompson and Dustin Brown, maybe even Jake Muzzin.

If the Caps could get last year's Jeff Carter, sure. But not this year.

I don’t see this happening, maybe last year but Jeff isn’t as good and older and the Capitals wouldn’t toss up possible potential and younger talent even though Burakovsky hasn’t been that good

Hey, buy low, and I love the cap hit for the reputation, but I think one of the wheels fell off. If he gets it back, this is an absolute steal for the Caps. If not, it's still a steal...

Just say no to Burakovsky. He's incredibly overpaid for what he brings, and his contract will require a ridiculous qualifying offer to keep him rights protected this summer ($3.25M!!!). With Doughty's extension and raises due to Kempe and Iafallo, not to mention Carter's salary retention in this trade, it's more than likely that the Kings won't be able to qualify him and he'll end up as a UFA this summer, much like Toby Rieder was last summer.

I'm all for acquiring Johansen though, and if you want to include a 2nd round pick to the trade to incentivize the Kings to retain salary and take Burakovsky as a cap dump, then they might consider it. Then it wouldn't suck so much when they inevitably have to let Burakovsky walk in the summer.

I like this. We have a ton of quality LHD in the system, so Johansen is expendable. Alexeyev has seemingly passed him, plus Siegenthaler and Fehervary both have NHL upside.

We’d definitely need LA to eat that salary for it to work, given the paydays we have to give Vrána and Djoos in the off-season. But even if Carter doesn’t perform like he has in the past, it’s still an upgrade over what we’ve got with Burakovsky. And if he does perform like he has in the past, our entire team got taken up three notches, given how complete a player Jeff Carter is

I literally LOL'd.

Burakovsky and Johansen would not be enough to get Carter with retention. LA needs the cap space. Carter does not have a NTC/NMC so LA could get considerably more from teams with low caps that don't want to spend on salary (Ari, Car, etc). Carter has a $5.3M cap hit, but his salary over the next 3 years is only $3M, $2M, $2M. $15.8M cap hit for $7M in actual salary. Low payroll teams (vs cap hit) will "pay" for that.
