That Carolina trade is plain and simple horrible...Pesce and Ferland for Brown, who's a throw away, and a 3rd round center that's arguably overpaid? Try throwing in at least a 1st to Car.

gardiner is the most overrated useless nhl defense man. he puts up points on a very offensive minded team. he is clueless on defense and on a per game bases makes game changing mistakes . the leafs defense is better without him. fair value is a bunch of cracked pucks in a plastic walmart bag with a hole in it

A sign and trade Gardiner isn't happening, And an extended Jake Gardiner isn't worth 2 1st round picks get real. The NYI can sign him for free on July 1st and give him 6 x 6. The Islanders easily decline the Gardiner deal.

Gardiner is a bit of a bonehead but all this negativity is misdirected. Before the Muzzin trade, Gardiner was the best all round defenseman they had and he was playing out of his depth. Much like Kessel, he is a great complementary player but not the guy you want as your go to.

Gardiner as a 3-4 would be very good but not as a 1.

Brown doesn't have a lot of value but Kadri does and his cap hit amplifies his value even more. 4.5M for a 30 goal #2 centre is a steal and I'm not a Kadri fan.

Your Zaitsev deal is very creative. Very few people come up with plausible moves that solve problems rather than just player movement, nicely done.

The Gardiner value there is pretty good. A late 1st and a prospect is a price many would pay if they're looking for offense from a blue liner and are willing to offer an extension as well.

Let's be honest. A 30g centre on a sweetheart deal > 20pt shutdown dman on a fair contract. IMO, whoever signs Ferland this offseason is getting themselves another David Clarkson. Honestly his numbers aren't far off from Brown's and Ferland usually plays 2nd line vs Brown on the 4th

Gaborik for Zaitsev is also gross. We can't put anyone on LTIR so he's essentially dead weight we're taking on for a guy that plays good D for us...but happens to be overpaid by about $1m/yr.

You guys are hilarious talking about Gardiner. You'll troll leaf boards saying you have to give him at least $6m on an extension...but call him garbage. Why would GM's give him $6m this offseason then? He's absolutely worth a late 1st round pick. He logs over 21min a night and is a deft skater. He handles the puck more and, as a result, turns the puck over more. Do yourselves a favour and look up the league leaders in turnovers...you'll likely find a ton of 'stud' d-men in the top 10...more ice time, more puck handling = more turnovers. Honestly he had 1 bad game before the break and everyone wants to ignore the 25 good ones that preceded it.

Kadri < Pesce number one d have ore value than 3rd line centers. he has 13 goals this season not on pace for 30.

Kadri is a solid 2C 60pt guy.
Pesce is a solid top4 30pt guy

I’d say Kadri should be worth more but it’s close enough given the age difference and contract lengths. Also the canes WANT to trade a D for a C. Ferland is a good player but he’s a ufa that likely gets overpaid so toronto stays away. And brown has another year at 2m plus he’s younger and versitile. Good pker and has shown the ability to score (not lately)

Zaitsev for gaborik is just an idea to shed his contract although I’m sure he’s more valuable then a straight cap dump.

Gards for Wilde or another prospect and a late first is a steal for the islanders if they want deem they need D help. Jake is a number 3guy who just needs a mayfield type to play some of the grind.

If you legit believe this then you have absolutely 0 credibility in any player assessment.

Why is Gardiner garbage? Explain that to me. There's no statistical evidence to support this whether you look at traditional or advanced metrics. He generally ranks inside the top 35 for all d-men whether you're looking at points, plus minus, CF % despite logging less PP time then most other d-men immediately above or below him....this statistically makes him a low-end top pairing or high end 2nd pairing d-man. But please, explain to me why he's garbage

Why is a 30 goal centre that can play PP, PK and play with an edge while on a terrific contract less valuable than a 2nd pairing defensive d-man that tops out at 20pts? 21pts was his career high with the University of New Hampshire so it's not like anyone's expecting him double that production at any point in his pro career. What position is harder for a team to fill...defensive d-man or 30g centre?
