Who are these teams that would offer such contracts? There has to be a signed offer sheet to actual be an offer sheet to match. Leafs wouldn't match even if there was such offer, and just spend the money they have set aside for Matthew and Marner about 20m on the players and have 8 first rounders.

Arizona could do the Matthews one and Dallas could afford the Marner one. I don’t know if Marner would sign the Dallas one but I’m so certain that Matthews would sign the Arizona one

Matthews will likely sign before the end of this season. Then everyone can stop with these crazy offer sheets. Well, you can still make Marner ones, but he isn't going until when teams can make offer sheets. I doubt he would even sign one since he is from Ontario.

Matthews is likely going to be extended by then. Dallas, Buffalo, Colorado, Arizona, Chicago, Columbus, NYI, NYR, New Jersey, Montreal, Florida, Philadelphia, Vancouver, and Vegas can all afford an offer sheet. Florida, New Jersey, Colorado, Buffalo, Dallas, Columbus, NYI, and Vegas are the only ones that are likely to consider it though.

What does Torontk do then when Marner wants the same money as Mathews? They wont be able to operate or fully contend with 3 players over $10 million. They wouldn't be deep enough until the cap went up and the contracts value diminished in 3 or 4 years.

Matthews and Marner both at $11 million is a lot easier to work with then the numbers up above. If Matthews signs for 5 years at $11.5 which is rumored, then Marner likely signs for 5 for a little less but not that far off. It will be interesting to see where Kaps comes in at. He is having a really good year, but only his first good year. No way he gets over $5 million. It could be around $3 million or less on a bridge deal. They can make it work, especially if they can get rid of Zaitsev. I would love to see them move Marleau, but that likely is never going to happen with his no move clause.

Heck, Andreas Johnson and Kapanen "want" the same money as Matthews. It's not relevant what a player wants. It what he offered by other teams that can be a tipping point in negotiations.
Player don't have to sign offer sheets from other teams, even it means more money than they would get from the Leafs (or the teams they prefer to play for). Point and Rantanen are having better seasons than Matthew and Marner, do you really think all RFAs, especially those just off ELCs are getting more than multiple trophy winner McDavid?

I dont think anyone is getting more than McDavid. It's that Marner isnt as guaranteed to stay as Leafs fans want to think. There is a reason why he is waiting till after Mathews is signed, there is a reason why teams are preparing offer sheets for him. If he goes to July 1st and is told by Toronto that he isnt getting Mathews money then he can easily find a team that will. Then it's all in the Leafs court to match.

According to non Leaf fans on capfriendly there are only RFA's in TO. All other players hitting RFA have zero chance of getting offer sheets but everyone will offer TO's RFA's huge contracts. Colorado has Rantanen, he definitely won't get an offer sheet. Laine and Connor in Winnipeg? No chance. Marner and Matthews? 100%

And why do you think he said it? I am not sure its even believable at this point. Its all speculation that feeds the hysteria behind this topic. Its buying clicks is what it is. Tell me why teams would only target one team when there are many RFA higher end players coming to RFA status this off season and there has been zero offer sheets in years. Its all BS and everyone who posts about it is just buying and drinking the coolaid to fuel a weird irrational hatred for the Leafs.

Oh, I don't think it's going to easy at all to find a team that will pay him 11 or 12 m. You really find it that "easy" to find a desirable team that will pay him that much. I would like to know who these teams are. Gee, what do Point and Rantanen get who have had superior seasons?

Teams are already preparing offer sheets for him, even if there is only 3 teams that do it then it can still get signed. Colorado has the cap room to sign Rantanan and Tampa is going to have to make some moves for Point but Floridas tax laws always help then sign players for a bit less

Let's not get in the relatively meaningless tax situation. Someone just posted 10m matching offers for Marner and Rantanen. They were left 132,000 in cap space. Not much when you have your own RFAs and other to sign the following year.
