Is Jensen really better than Hainsey?

I would say he has put up solid advanced stats with players past their prime and been playing 20+ min a game against top tier talant he would definitely give hainsey a run for his job and would worst case be a tremendous 7th dman off the bench if hsinsey begins to struggle like he did last playoffs.

Seems like so many Leaf fans and non Leafs fans want to acquire all RHDs from non playoff teams. Not that I wouldn't mind having him, but it seems to be an obsession that all these other RHD are so much better than the Leaf players. Actually I wouldn't mind having Jensen as Leaf next year if affordable since Gardiner and Hainsey will be gone.

I would say if they really want to ensure they give this roster the best chance at winning they need a liitle more depth at d and for the rumoured price of Jensen and the fact he happens to be RHD and able to play 20+min a game he seems like a good piece to tidy up the loose ends the leafs have. This is probably the only shot the leafs have at a cup til the 2021 playoffs seeing they will need to survive capwise next season and really not spend so i really have no issue if Dubas gives Babs the extra RHD and the heavy forward he has been asking for.

There is a common trend in the NHL where all good teams have "cap issues" it comes with being a good team and is a great problem to have. Just like every other good team the Leafs will establish their core of 5 or 6 fwds at 3 or 4 dmen and pay them. Everyone else will be moved out and other players moved in. "Cap issues" yes but is it really an issue if ur winning ?

I agree they will have to move money at somepoint but if done properly they can do that in the offseason.

Now what would you say is more important, putting 2 extra years on Matthews or marner’s contract or upgrading our 4th line?

Glendening if needed could be traded in the offseason but to be honest like i said this is probably our best shot til 2021 playoffs. Also how is a tradable contract in the offseason going to cost us either of them?

Glendening isn't needed. The "rumours" only came up when the Leafs needed a 4th line centre and they don't now. They have Lindholm and Gauthier who can play that role. Take him out of the deal and Engvall. The most I can see Jensen getting is a player off the roster, a lower end prospect and a 3rd. 2nd round picks are a high overpayment.
Also, Glendening adds heaviness? He's 5'11", 192lbs and doesn't play a physical game. He's a grinder that finishes his checks, but he's far from a heavy player. He makes $1.8M for 2 more years after this, to play the 4th line? That's where teams come into cap issues when they pay their 4th liners that kinda money, long term (part of the reason why Detroit is in cap hell right now). Gauthier who's their 4C right now is 6'5", 235lbs and plays a very similar game to Glendening and Gauthier is under contract until the end of next season at league minimum.

.. keep in mind that Jensen is a UFA at the end of the season and if the Leafs wanted him I'm sure he won't sign for that much money next season.

The thing is the way babcock was discussing heaviness it was after a game that nobody was grinding or finishing their checks but if they were only trying to motivate the rest of the roster then so be it but i do think it may cost us a bit more than that for Jensen but either way i think you can agree Jensen fits the bill for TOR but if they can do it for a prospect and a 3rd great.
