Wait for everybody slaying you for saying that Zaitsev is worth 3rd or 4th. You would according to few here need 1st round pick and awesome prospect to get that HORRIBLE CONTRACT out..

Ozhiganov can make much more in KHL. I don't see him back because the Leafs should not pay him. Your contract is right, but can make more in KHL.

Toronto fans do that a lot. I remember seeing a lot of Josh Leivo for a 1st posts. He ended up getting traded for an undrafted guy who will likely never play in NHL.

Yup.. Im leafs fan as well but I never saw that much value in Leivo to say to your example.. Zaitsev would get 7th D or/and 7th round pick probably in realistic trade. He has value as for hockey goes but his value is down because of contract situation.. I dont expect Leafs to be paying for getting him out realistically. I might be wrong tho..

I am assuming, based on projections as this season moves along, Kapanen will settle in at around $3.5 million AAV for 4 years, and Andreas Johnson will be around $2.25 million AAV for 2-4 years. I don't think Marner eclipses $10 million AAV, and I do believe he will end up with an 8 year deal - something like $9.5 million AAV seems about right. Also, I don't think Nylander is a Leaf in 2019-20, and I will give a shout out to @palhal who proposed a Morgan Frost, Phillipe Myers (and I included Scott Laughton) for Nylander. That would be where your savings happen. You could still trade Zaitsev's contract, if possible, and then bring Hainsey back for say $1 million 1 year deal, or an equivalent contract as a bottom pairing D.
