As of yesterday, the stl pick went to anaheim. The sj pick was predicted to be 30th- thats assuming they lose in the cup. If the stl pick is worse than 20, thats the pick that goes to anaheim. Its worth mentioning because there is a difference in value between 19 and 30, especially if the talent drops off around 18/19. I dont know what kappos ceiling is, i mean if its reinhart, maybe detroit takes the picks, if its eichel they hang up and block your number. Buffalos pick is 8th today, plus 19 say- i dont think that gets you there. 8 plus 30 certainly doesnt, at least if its me.

Correct. 8 maybe gets you a great player. Anything after 15 usually a good player (obviously there are outliars here) but Detroit isn’t starving for good players. We have them. Detroit is starving for game changers. Typically speaking. We will find them. 1 game changer> 1 great and 1 good player imo. And sheary doesn’t do much for Detroit imo either.

To trade out of the top2,
a team is gonna want a big overpayment

This likely isn’t close
Even if we pick as high as 6th

One possible exception
Let’s say we like Kakko who DET picks 2nd,
but Detroit also REALLY likes the Russian kid
Now if the Russian kid drops to us...
THEN MAYBE the wings call us back & offer Kakko for the Russian kid +
Probably still have to be a pretty big “plus” though

Look at the Eric Lindros trade what Philly had to give for him. It turned the Ave's (Quebec at the time of the trade) into Stanley Cup Champs and you could argue that Philly was just as responsible as the Ave's GM for building that team in to Stanley Cup champs. Now the really crazy thing is Lindros wouldn't sign in Quebec and they had to trade him. So getting that pick when signing him isn't an issue. No smart GM would make that trade.

The Anaheim transferred to the Sharks pick because STL dropped under the top 20

laugh Not even close dude, To get the #2 overall pick you'd need to give up pieces that you aren't willing to give up. That just plain awful for Detroit.

I completely agree that no one would make this trade. Just to offer a different point of view (I know this is the only draft in the last 15 that this is the case), but what if either PIT or WSH asked EDM to trade their 2 first round picks for the Oiler's first OA, then either WSH or PIT picked Yakupov. After the first year Nail looked good, but now the Oilers won big time after they picked (WSH) Forsberg and Wilson or (PIT) Pouliot and Maatta, the EDM GM would have looked like a genius.

Edmonton still wouldnt have done that trade....Hindsight is 20/20......nobody is trading top 5 picks anymore and especially not when the only player youre getting back is conor sheary.....
