Kings refuse on the fact that two picks in the top 33 is too much to give up to off-load Phaneuf for a rebuilding team. The overall cap savings is better in the short term sure, but Phaneuf's contract runs out before the expansion draft and Toffoli is someone they can get a piece for. Add onto that the fact that JVR is under contract for 4 more years (through the expansion, so he'll have to warrant thought on saving a spot) for $7mill. In addition, there are even rumors of a buy-out for Phaneuf since cap hit probably won't be a huge problem for the Kings for the next 2 years, as they turn over roster players like Quick, Carter, and possibly Martinez and Toffoli for younger pieces that are cost-effective for the re-tool/rebuild.

Just doesn't make sense from an LA standpoint.

Lol in all fairness though, if you are LAK, why would you want to do this? Your not trying to win anytime soon so adding JVR is kind of irrelevant. Phaneuf's contract will eventually fade into the sunset. Is moving out Toffoli and Phaneuf for JVR going to get them any cups? i don't think so.

IMO LAK isn't a quick fix. They need to retool/rebuild. That means keeping prospects and picks and letting bad contracts and old players leave naturally.

I'm not so sure Doughty and Kopitar would feel the same way.

If that's the case, Doughty shouldn't have signed his 8 year contract extension.. If they didn't feel so otherwise, they should also play better this season..... its a double edged sword on that one.

Haha Brown actually somewhat rekindled his career though....... He scored more points than JVR did this year!! Either way, the GM is in charge, not the players of the team that finished 2nd worst in the league.

I don't think LA would have the slightest interest in this idea. there's no way you're getting those 2 picks in that deal. JVR ain't worth that much

JVR worth Toffoli and a late round 1st. Phaneuf’s contract is definitely worth a good pick.
