He's a better player than Reilly and Alzner and saying otherwise is ignorant. Benn might be just as good or potentially better but is a pending UFA and may want 3-4M for 3-4 years. You willing to pay a soon to be 32 year old that kind of money and term?

Scandella to MTL makes a ton of sense. He's a home town kid, that would cost peanuts to acquire and doesn't have a lot of term and has played 20+ min, top 4 minutes in his career. If you are looking at his stats in Buffalo that's like saying Domi would be a bad player because he scored mostly empty netters last year......look how that turned out.

Scandella would be a cheap, under the radar, good player to acquire. No fetish implied, just smart pro scouting.

Trouba, Donskoi, Miller are all players that fit what Buffalo needs. Still think it’s unlikely anyone takes Scandella. Better off using the buyout of callahan so he can return to TBL on a smaller deal like a orpik did last year.

I agree about retaining on ristolainen. If you take troubas extension at 7.5 (which is probably close) and add 1.4 for 3 years of retention, you are basically at 9 a year for trouba, while giving the jets a right handed d at 4. Ristolainen has his warts, but hes hardly overpaid.

i just think if they can pay risto 5.4, they would find a way to pay trouba around 7. if we save them almost half of the cap hit which they can use to re-sign some of their UFAs that would entice them to do the deal along with getting back into the first round. i would have had kulikov coming back as a cap dump but i'm fairly certain buffalo would be on his no trade list.

Your telling me Benn, whose having a career year and is a dman who can play both sides is going to sign for less than those guys above??? . Not saying its a good idea but someone who needs a dman badly doesn't have a million choices in this Free agent market. You have Karlsson, Gardiner, Edler and Myers, than everyone else falls off a cliff...... all old 35+ or simply not good dmen.... Benn will get easily over 2M.
