Marner is overrated in the media and on this site. His totals were propped up by JT being awesome. All the advanced numbers scream this, even the dumb numbers do too (jt's point totals did not increase, while Mitch and hyman's went up by alot, showing that JT was driving the line and boosting others numbers).

If you want to overpay the **** out of him, tie up too much cap space for him, and give us 4 unprotected picks,

Lmao

He's almost a 100 point winger as a 22-year old (literally just turned that yesterday). That's still something pretty special, even though Tavares might have lifted those numbers.

Ofc I laughed pretty much when there were a post regarding trading Marner in exchange to Makar+4th overall pick. That's way too much.

Preds picks are going to be relatively low as this team seems to be a constant contender.

Why though? They need a 1RHD. Subban's just that. Also he as a player would fit perfectly to Vegas life imo.

I never said he was bad. I said he was overrated. He is a top line winger and deserves to be paid like it.

Key words:
LIKE IT

Not "Way in excess of it"

Define a "like a top line winger" payment

6-8@9-9.75

Once you factor in that he gets paid 25-30% more (due to the CAD), that works out to being roughly the same going by the CF tax calculator as Stone and Kuch.

It is funny to see how the new meta player in the NHL is a 20 something goal scorer and 50-60 something point producer and that they earn 8+ million a year. I can't believe people haven't learned from the Hawks and all those horrible contracts restrict a team from being able to continuously contend year after year. The Penguins are another prime example and to an extent the Kings as well. It makes no sense to pay a single player 20% of the teams total cap hit imo.

Personally I agree with this. But knowing that Matthews is going to be his first comparison, I would be surprised if he takes anything under $10.8M.

Which makes an offer sheet all more likely.

Matthews and Marner play different games and bring different elements to the team. You can't really compare the two.

Agreed. But I don't see Marner's agent and representatives agreeing with that.

They could just trade Nylander for Subban straight up

TOR can't afford to do that and I don't think Preds is willing to do that.

PJ is roughly a 50 point Dman IF he's healthy, Miller & Schmidt are 40 point players. Their possession stats are all decent, Miller's are actually sensational but he plays very sheltered minutes, and Subban is older and carries a $9M hit, Schmidt & Miller combined are only $9.775. Eckholm, Ellis and Jossi all play more minutes than Subban so it's hard to call him a true #1.

I don't think there is good reason to deal out two top 4 Dmen for 1, PK is better than either Miller or Schmidt but I don't think a team is better having him than the other two.

But they can afford to give Marner over $10m per season? They are gonna lose Kapanen and/or Johnnson either way.

Well let's just say it's not about them wanting to give Marner $10M, it's more like that they're forced to do it if they want to keep him...

I understand that but when you have a plethora of quality forwards and are lacking a high end right handed defenseman what would you do?
