I can't imagine any reason why Muzzin and Dermott would agree to that contract

I can see that but look at the years and compare it to other top four defenseman

I can they have massive depth and if they lose first round next year they're gonna tear that team apart

While I agree, Cirelli will be one of the ones who stays. Cirelli, Sergachev, Kucherov, and Point are most likely untouchable if they blow it up

I think you nailed it right there. Muzzin is a top four D men. top four d men that are hitting UFA don't pick up the phone for less than 5 mill a year.

Well, I suppose Dermott might agree to a one year kind of, bet on yourself type deal, but I think that just prolongs an even steeper contract for the future, don't want him to end up like Trouba. Muzzin on the other hand will probably want more term or certainly more money. Keep in mind he's going to be declining now, so he'll either want security for his older years when he's not as good, or a lot of money now, knowing the next time he signs a contract in 2 years, he'll be a worse player than he is now. I think you look at Mike Green when he signed a 3 year $6M deal or just recently 2 year $5.375M as the minimum.

the years? Muzzin is 30 years old the more years the better, no way he signs for under 5 million

Massive depth? lol

1) Cirelli is going nowhere. Especially with that weak ass offer. Tampa matches it 100 times out of 100.
2) At the end of next season Killorn NTC becomes modified (16 teams list), so his 4.45M can be moved.
3) JT Miller, if he'll still be with Tampa, and his 5.25M also could be moved if necessary.
4) The Carle buyout (1.833M) will come off of our books at the end of next season.

As you see, we got plenty of room to move things around if necessary. And Cirelli will be priority numbert 2 next summer to re-sign, right after Vasi (even tho I'm convinced we'll see Vasi re-signing this offseason already).

Nobody is getting Cirelli out of Tampa.

I don't think Marleau is TOR biggest problem. All you need is to add a solid D and gain winning mind set and belief in your abilities, cause talent is there.

The problem is it's hard to add a solid D when you're paying a 4th liner $6.25M

welcome to NHL buddy. But one thing I have to agree, is that you shouldn't have had Marleau on the first place, you'd have more help if you would have added someone like Seabrook (or similar), who has 3 cups and knows how to handle pressure and what to tell to his teammates when they get out of control. So the problem with Marleau is not that he is 4th liner, but rather that he is not a clutch player.

I agree that they shouldn't have signed Marleau, however Seabrook is probably the only player who is more overpaid in the entire league. I think not having either probably makes the team better going forward
