Agree and that's not happening in California given they deal with the highest income tax in North America...makes Canada's tax look attractive

Just because a player doesn't do well in tirefire capital of the world Edmonton, doesn't mean they can't play. He's 27 he makes 1.9 now, he'll get 2.5 no matter where he goes.

Not wanting to doesn't mean they won't. If it's a choice between a pair of picks and Brayden Point, it will be the picks

Pavelski is 34 years old. He is at that age when the salary goes down not up. As for Meier that's a decent 2nd contact for a player coming off of his 1st 30 goal season. It also gives him a second bite at the apple before he reaches UFA status but after he has arb rights. Hertl has more accomplishments and he is only making 600000 more.

Pavelski is coming off a 38 goal season and a post season where he showed exactly what his value is to this team and its fanbase. No way is he taking a pay cut at this point and frankly, if Doug won't do it someone else will. Hell, we'd be getting a hometown discount if we get him to stay for six.

If Timo is going to agree to a bridge deal (and I wouldn't be at all surprised) it'll be likely be 2 for 9-10 million. Four seasons at five million? His agent should be fired if he signs for that - and don't give me that lip about Hertl, his contract was signed in a very different time and if he were negotiating right now he'd be looking more at 8 million per.

Also, "San Jose takes on 4 million in salary that they can spare in return for a pair of picks to help stock the cupboards" AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

GMs aren't idiots man. While I do not expect there to be a flurry of offer sheets this summer, despite repeated stories of doom and gloom from the hockey media, GMs will kick another GM who is tight on cap space while they are down. They will make them pay through the nose if they want to offload dead money. TBH, if there is going to be a flurry of anything this summer, my feeling is that it will be a flurry of old guys getting LTIRed to get their cap space back.

Agree with all of this except I think Meier could sign a bridge worth 7-8 mil

See, I was basing Timo's bridge deal off the one that William Karlsson had last year with the Knights - he had a maaaassive breakout season and then signed a one year bridge for 5.25 million. His year was bigger than Timo's was, so I shaved a bit off :P

My feeling is that Doug Wilson is one of the more underrated GMs in the NHL. He is very good at selling the 'Take less money, win more games' program. He sold Thornton on it, he sold Marleau on it, he's sold Pavelski on it, he's sold Burns on it, he sold Couture on it. All of those guys took less than market value, even Burns who was coming off a Norris when he signed his deal. He'll sell Pavelski (again) and Meier on it.

That's fine and all but the cap has gone up. Salaries have gone up. The discount deals will go up also

They won't go up to the levels you are putting them at, not in San Jose. They might in places that has an ass for ownership but not there. If I am off on Meier, it won't be by more than say 1.5 mil and that still keeps them under the cap.

I disagree. It’s not even that he played bad in Edmonton, he couldn’t get into the lineup even with a tire fire roster. He will go somewhere for 1x1

If he signs for that in San Jose, I'm sure they won't complain.

As for Edmonton, keep in mind who their coach was. Hitchcock is as hardcore as they come when it comes to not suffering fools. Make one mistake and you've burnt that bridge for life. Just ask Ty Rattie who despite what he was doing before Hitch arrived couldn't get in ahead of Tobias (no goals) Reider for a mistake he made in bloody St.Louis apparently
