LGB For Life

Created by: PresidentJay
Team: 2019-20 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: May 26, 2019
Published: May 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Whatever happens in the finals, the Blues will keep the same team together for the most part.
Jake Allen is gone. Throw in Sanford and get the best package possible. I picked Hagg because he had one of the highest hit totals for defensemen this past season. Binnington doesn't give up too many goals but when he lets one in, it's usually when there a crowd in front of the net. If the Blues add someone who can clear out the front of the net, Binnington will be that much better.
Maroon has to be resigned for what he's brought to the team and city.
Buying out Steen will give the team money to spend if need be but more importantly, will give younger players more ice time.

Allen and Sanford ain't bringing back a starter and a 1st. If they do, Army will have picked Philly's pocket yet again.

Philly is probably signing Talbot so maybe pick another team.
I agree that Maroon will be back but I can't see them buying out a long standing Blue like Steen, maybe with one season left they might but not with two.

I agree they are going to bring back basically the same team (which is a very good thing) but you've got a number of errors in here:

- Binnington ain't signing for 1/$3.0MM

- There is zero chance that Allen/Sanford fetch a 1st rounder, let alone a 1st rounder + a very serviceable young defenseman

- Edmundson at 1 year/$1.0 MM isn't even a valid contract -- his QO is $3.0MM, not to mention he's arbitration eligible and will get more like $4.0 through that process on a 1 year deal. Realistically he's either going to get a mid/long term contract or get his rights dealt to a team that will give him that.

- Sundqvist -- see notes on Edmundson above. Same thing applies.

- Blais, Sanford, Fabbri are all resigned in this scenario below their minimum qualifying offer.

- Maroon is a massive overpay -- maybe some team gives him $4.0MM, but that team ain't the Blues.

I don't necessarily disagree with anything you say. I didn't spend a lot time looking at salaries but if you notice there still room in the budget for that which makes sense since there isn't any significant subtractions. Maroon will sign for close to that. Zack Smith of the Senators has the same numbers and same age and makes 3.25. Perhaps, Maroon gets 3 buy being sold on local endorsement deals he's likely to get. You're probably right about the Allen deal, maybe we can get a second; there seems to be a lot of teams that need a goalie.
