While it seems like a lot to give up for marner. The picks should all be late first round picks and we don’t lose any players on roster

Not for us. These arent pens or caps late firsts we are throwing around. I have to see much bigger steps as an organization before i do anything like this. And if you did do this, it probably costs you reinhart, especially if skinner signs here. You wont have room for reinhart at whatever his next contract is. So within 2 years, you will essentially be adding marner to replace reinhart- at the cost of 4 first rounders, minus whatever the return on reinhart is (which will not be 4 buffalo first rounders).

As you can see with the team above we will have no problem keeping Reinhart. We will have 26 million in cap space. Plenty to sign montour, Reinhart and other bridge deals

Honestly i wrote out the majority of this post thinking there was ZERO chance paying Marner that much could work here without destroying the team/cap for years to come.. but honestly after doing all the math and work on it i think that not only is it do able cap wise but, Buffalo could offer alittle MORE. The trick will be trying to sign some players to slightly longer bridge deals which normally means costing you more. But if they can do that and then let the cap ceiling catch up over the next two years then everything will work out.

Reinhart probably costs BUF $6-$7 million after his bridge deal
Mitts will get a bridge for say $3 million if he has a decent year $4 m if he has a great year.
Montour will be $6 million-ish
Then in 2 years Dahlin will be looking for anywhere from $6-$8 million,
Tage Thompson will get $2 million
Nylander anywhere from $2-$4 million depending if he shows up or not,
Finally Oloffson maybe $2million tops..
so if we go high on all these that is $33 million worth in the next 2 years.

Coming off you have:
-$12million that we are already paying those players
-$5 million for Bogo
-$8 million for Callahan and Hunwick combined
that's -$25 million..
with the cap going up maybe another $6 million in those 2 years
so -$31 million.. that puts you -$2 million behind the projected cap in two years with no other trades or move... that's definatly work able i think Marner could fit in nicely here..

I'm going to be making my own roster after doing all this to hopefully reflect it all.

First of all, I think the Leafs match this offer sheet. And I think the Jets take a hard pass.

But if you do sign him, you end up in the same situation the Leafs are in right now, being forced to hope that guys take less to fit into what you want them to. What if Mittelstadt and Dahlin blow up next year, they are going to want more. Then you also need to factor in the Marner effect, of why would these guys take discounts to stay in Buffalo if they can sign somewhere else for more? If you think Marner would leave Toronto for a difference of a million AAV, you also need to consider your RFA's would leave as well.

You also haven't improved your goaltending and with all the players leaving, you haven't budgeted anything to replace them. Maybe you replace them with cheap UFA's or AHL guys, but if those players are worse you can get in trouble that way. I don't know for sure that your team is better after this offersheet then before it. And your chances of getting ready to play NHL guys in the draft goes down because you traded away four first round picks to give you cost-controlled talent coming up.
