There has been 0 indication that Marner's camp are even remotely thinking about a bridge deal.

That isn't how negotiations and offer sheet work.

And Dubas is such a firm negotiator, look at the sweet deal he got on Matthews and Nylander..

Teams can not trade the player for one full calendar year from first refusal. They can however decline to match and negotiate a trade rather than accepting the compensation.

no you negotiate a fair deal on both sided but sometimes agents get in the way of that for a bigger cut, problem is if he cant sign for what the team can afford weather its a bridge deal or a long term then he is traded or is given an offer sheet and dubas matches it and trades him there are alot of teams that would jump all over it.

You can't trade him for 1 year from the day you match

I guess you forgot to tell Dubas he had all the power in the Matthews, Tavares and Nylander deals then?

IF Marner signs an offer sheet and Toronto matches, he can't be traded for 1 calendar year. Which REALLY bones the Leafs cap situation.

Marner is asking for fair market value. The same market value Dubas created when he signed Matthews and Nylander. Marner was easily the Leafs best player for large portions of the season last year. Now Leaf fans are so quick to undervalue him or straight out crap all over him. Ignore the process and let Dubas figure out how to get out of this situation.

The Kucherov bridge deal comparison falls apart when you realize Kucherov signed his bridge deal coming off of a 66 point season, while Marner is coming off of a 94 point season.

well if that is the case they can do that and if they feel an offersheet is coming and negotiations are not going well trade him.

I think Dubas did an A+ job for Tavares B+ for Nylander and a B for Matthews.

Some bad moves... Lou... zaitsev and Marleau.

11.5 mill is not fair market value for a winger also he got all those points playing with john tavares if he wasnt playing with a good goalscorer who says he would not have another 60-70 pt season.

My favorite is when Leaf fans expect to get a Kings ransom in a trade for him, but think it's ridiculous for him to want a lot of money. Is he super valuable or not?

In those 3 deals, he set the market for Marner… Don't blame the player for asking for what he is worth.

as valuable as a top line winger can be but look around the league for a top line winger making 11.5 mill

During the season the argument was that he was propping up Tavares career year... so which is it?

I don't think you'll find one after he signs his deal, but it won't be a bridge deal in the $5.5m range. He'll ask for Matthews money to start and end up around $10-10.5m in a 6-7 year deal is my guess. Centers get paid a premium for a reason.

my money is on the seasoned vet who got about 4 extra points in a season and had a career year vs the young and skilled guy who jumped up by 25 points.

Kane's deal was buying UFA years, so with the cap increase, I think Marner will end up around where Kane did.

Actually im with non-leaf fans here on this one....Dubarelli dug his cap-grave with caving on Matthews. Lets se how he will handle his "we can and we will"

11,634M = 8y

5 y = 9M

Give Marner short term 4 x 8,5M which is doable, and far more candied then Kutcherov 8 x 9,5M
