Why are sabres fans so quick to get rid of conor sheary. He was a fine player for them this past season he is just not a top six guy. I would love to keep him for the third line for the future

i think cj smith earned it with 30 goals in ahl. better defensively on top of that too.

I think with the style of game he plays, bottom 6 makes no sense, but at the same time neither does top 6. You need some toughness in the bottom 6 (see this years playoffs) and sheary is just so under whelming

Bad deal for Buffalo.

how so? big improvement on top 6 now and Lavoie carried his team to through playoffs and memorial cup finals. yes a bit more cap to take on but buffalo has got lots of space for next little while

Why would you have included in the deal Rask? We don't have to trade all these RFA's for Zucker, if you want to exchange picks with Minnesota then you just have to exchange Zucker and the first one for prospect and our first one, the rest parts are not needed.

We need the cap space to sign reino Casey and dahlin in the future. Losing out on value for the pick in which we can get a really good player for the future with. Zucker had a down year and is a risk to be an upgrade at LW.

i dont see buffalo signing any of those RFAs again excluding Oglevie. that said no way does Minnesota give up zucker to move up 5 spots. buffalo should not be giving up to many prospects as our pool is not deep at the moment so taking on a bad contract will ease the cost. mitt and dahlin are still RFAs in 2 years if sabers are strapped for cash for some unknown reason they can just get bridge deals.

not even comparable between Zuker and Sheary. just look at any advanced stat site (www.corsicahockey.com is my go to) and you will see a huge difference in there potential even on this "down year" for him. mitt and dahlin are RFAs its easy to control their cost so i am not worried. especially with sabers d group cost about to drop a country mile next year.

Going up from 12 to 7 is not going to be cheap, so I see just the opposite, if Minnesota wants to take a certain player, then they pay. Prospect I mean any young player from the AHL or mid prospect.

Casey won't get a big raise but reino and dahlin will. Zucker is not gonna cost the sabres dropping out of the top 10, especially with Rask attached. You usually have to pay to move up but the value isn't there for the sabres

ask yourself if a top line winger in prime years locked in under 6m$ for 4 more years is worth more than a 1st round pick. remembering hartman and tartar both got more than a 1st and play mid 6 roles.

i see Lavoie as the steal of the draft and the 6-15 draft spots as you could pick anyone. so i disagree with not worth risk of moving down notion. sabers are not hurting for money and Dahlin isnt going to get 10m$ off first contract like eichel unless he wins Norris. so if you dislike zuker i can understand that but i still find him to be and absolute up grade to sheary witch lets you trade sheary to get even more value back.

There's definitely a better player that will be on the board at 7 than 12.

It is, but when you move in the project, it also costs quite a lot, especially if it is in the top 10. Imagine that Alex Turcotte still, Zegras or Caufield.

there will be more player obv but who gets developed well will determine who is better. McAvoy #14 in 2016, Rantanen #10 in 2015, Larkin #15 in 2014. its not easy to pick who is going to be great but if they do that trade at the very least the top 6 is alot better for a few more years.

wouldnt touch Caufield. he is equivalent of Baptiste who played with mcdavid. stats look great in jr but defense isnt as nice in pros.

if sabers pick 3 or 4 i can see it being zuker coming over and getting 12 straight up or small toss in but not 7 the drop off is to big past 5.

Well, it's a risk, but it can also be an second Debrincat, and think he's a more versatile player than cat.

i think bobby brink may be the better option in that regard then. may be available at our 2nd 1st round pick(unlikely). slotted between 20 to 35 on most draft boards i have seen.
a top 10 pick shouldn't have a glaring knock against them, may not be greatest at something but all round decent with some far above avg skills.
