I have a question for MTL and EDM fans

Description
Would you consider a move like this?

The idea is basically the same from the Schenn for Lehterä trade - the only exception being that the pick is not conditional since Lucic's contract is much worse than Lehterä's was.

And the current pick is better than the pick in the example was, naturally

Nobody moving firsts in a cap dump, if it takes that much, probably buyout in July

To be fair they trade for the picks. Lucic is a deadweight that comes with them... MTL could be an insane dynasty in a 3-5 years time with literally the best prospect pool in the entire league.

There's a literal example for this trade in the description... And buying out Lucic doesn't really help EDM. His contract for the next couple of years is almost buyout-proof.

I would do that trade as an MTL fan. 8th overall and 15th overall this year could be massive additions to our prospect pool. Lucic played well for Claude, and he is good friends with Gallagher so it could work.

27th pick to 8th pick is a big jump

Not a Habs or Oilers fan but as is, I don't see Edmonton accepting this. The Schenn trade is a decent comparable but there's a few glaring differences.

1) Philly was still seen as in good shape to make a quick turn around and not need to rebuild. Yes Edmonton has McDavid but it's arguable that they're multiple moves away from seriously contending and moving Lucic doesn't allow them to make multiple big moves, it might allow 1. & with the rest of their cap situation those 2 1st rounders will be key since they'll be cheap roster players.

2) The big difference is that the pick that Philly gave up that wasn't conditional was pick #27, Edmonton has the #8. That's a pretty big gap. At minimum the 2nd pick should be conditional if not a lower round. Yes Lucic's deal is worse, but the #8 pick could step in the lineup right away and be a game changer. I don't think that pick's in play to move a bad contract. I'd be willing to bet they'd rather move Puljujarvi instead of the #8

Max retain on Lucic only way oil moving on from him, and that moves him into lehtera neighbourhood,

Change Tatar to a 7th round pick and maybe, I don't think people realize how brutal Lucic's contract is and how little he provides at this point.

Yeah I actually thought first putting Puljujärvi in the move instead of that first...but then I don't see MTL taking it. Lucic is the worst contract in the entire league, I just believe that it needs to be an overpayment to move it away. Moving that contract away would ease EDM situation for the next 4 years - not to mention that they get a solid TOP6 winger in exchange.

Also considering the recent history of EDM draft picks, they tend to destroy 2 out of 3 of their first round prospects by using them way too soon. Yakupov being the worst example of them all. Pulju is soon becoming the close second unless something changes. And that move also gives them the possibility to do that change.

Two years of Lehterä compared to four years of Lucic... I'd say the value change is close to going from 27th to 8th overall...but there's nothing that proves this as a clear fact. That's just an opinion.

If they're taking Tatar in the exchange, they couldn't afford to do that...

Oils might be a lottery team again next year ... are they willing to loose 1st overall pick to get rid of Luchick?

Habs would probably bury him in AHL Laval with Alzner ...

Possibly if his NMC gets voided.

Also that 2020 1st rounder can be lottery protected (TOP10 protected or something like that)

How about if the oilers swap picks with sens (19th) to dump manning and gagner and the oilers get a third and six in 2020 and the pick is protected through top 4? If its 5-10 the third becomes a second and the sixth becomes a third in 2021?

Or

Instead of 19, 11 or 13 if the Oilers can instead move Sekeras or Russel to Phili or Florida?

Edmonton Gagner + Manning + 8th overall to Ottawa for 19th

Lucic, 2019 19th overall and 2020 1st rounder (Top 4 protected, in case Oilers finish last) for Tatar, 3rd and 6th in 2020. If Oilers 2020 pick is 5-10. Then the third becomes a second in 2020 and the 6th in 2020 becomes a 3rd in 2021...and you can have Cody McLoed (I'm not particualrly sold on him aside from his skating).

Ah, I see.

I don't think MTL would take that. The benefit for taking the worst contract in the league would be too small after that move...
