Paul Marner traded to Minny

Created by: blowing_the_zone
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 22, 2019
Published: Jun. 24, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
$80M offered and that's not enough, even if that means becoming the 2nd highest paid winger in the league. Still upset about ELC signing bonuses and ice time as a rookie?? This is all a little bit precious...

Getting tired of the Paul Marner sideshow. If he does hit the road to solicit an OS for his son, then that might be crossing a line that they can't walk back. It's risky to commit to a long term relationship with a camp that uses tactics like this, and with a parent so publicly involved in the process. If Mitch is playing in Minny maybe that puts a fence around some of the me-first self importance and ego coming from the Marner camp.

Lily and Rosen compete for a spot til Dermott gets back. When Hyman gets back he moves to 3rd line wing with the bottom six wingers competing for their spots while Hyman is on the shelf (this might mean we need to trade Babcock too, because i can't imagine him playing Hyman anywhere but 1LW. Oh well, shed yet another over-sized ego and bring up Keefe).

Ferland becomes the LW that we've always dreamed about who plays with AM and Nylander .

Well, if you are gonna move Marner, that's the sort.of deal that makes sense. I don't mind it. Overall creates a much more balanced lineup.

My undervaluing was meant to counter the general overvaluing that's going on at present. But certainty didn't mean to have it come off as a dig at Hyman.

If we could land Ferland he seems like he could be a perfect fit for AM and Nylander. i like the idea of Johnson and Kappy being centered by JT.

The idea of Hyman on his strong side makes for a leaf line that could finally cycle.. i.e. Moore - Kadri - Hyman and/or work as an enegry/checking line.

I kinda hate the idea of losing Marner, but I kinda also hate the idea of what's playing out right now,and what type of dynamic that creates moving forward. Trading Marner would have its benefits, namely a better balanced roster and cap. And no more Paul Marner burner accounts..

We all should hate the concept. However, imo, Marner's season last year just might have something to do with his super awesome linemate too. A 30 point jump in production playing with Traveres? Now really...... coincidence? I think not.

I know. But it doesn't appear that Marner's camp is basing this contract negotiation on facts

Not at all. It could be argued this is worse than Carl Lindros....

I've thought of that comparison a few times. And you know what? Lindros never won a cup and despite being awesome almost didn't get the HOF nod. Meanwhile, everything that Philly sent to the Nords/Avs - including Forsberg - is what turned that franschise into a powerhouse and cup winner.

Ego really can be a nasty piece of deluded business..

Oh, I agree on that. Would only add that Paul's ego might be bigger than the bus he is driving his kid outta town with..

I brought up the idea of trading Marner a months ago and @Trickster and a few others shot the idea down so fast.
I still trading Marner is a real (and very good) option.
I'd like to know what @TanSor thinks of this idea.

I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't even trade Dumba for Marner straight up. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the way Marner plays, but when you factor in Marner at the $11M-$12M we'd have to pay him compared to the $6M Dumba makes, I like Dumba at 6 way more. I also have concerns about how much Tavares influenced Marner's season, he wouldn't have anywhere close to that type of talent as his center in MN. That makes me think he'd be more like a 70p winger here compared to a 90-100p winger in Toronto. If it costs us Spurgeon with an extension plus a few other pieces (like Zucker and Greenway), I'd be all for it (and there's no way in hell Dubas does that), but trading Dumba for Marner is an extremely bad idea for Fenton.

Funny you say that about Marner because Marner supporters would have you believe that Tavares would not have the goal/point totals if it weren't for Marner's playmaking ability.

I am of the belief that a high skilled C the player responsible for point totals wingers accumulate.
