? at age 18-19 (mcavoy was 19 when he signed his ELC) you only need 10 games for that year to count as the full season. He didnt play any regular season games. Similar to Torey Krug.

That's for a different rule. For it to be a year of NHL service a player needs to play 40 games from I looked up yesterday.

that's as it pertains to becoming a UFA, not having full RFA rights.

okay so obviously everyone is going over how he isn't offer sheet eligible, but here's my question to the original poster. Do you think that Sweeney would match in 2 seconds? Or would he take a sip of his coffee first, and match in 4-8 seconds?

McAvoy played a total of 6 games his first year in the League which were all Playoff games, but College kept him out of the NHL. He is in fact ineligible to sign an offersheet. Which is good for Boston, no one can really take McAvoy away from them.

Honestly this deal is what McAvoy is supposed to sign anyway so Boston would match that in a split second.

I think he would play some NHL 19, and sign McAvoy on there first them match it IRL.

"A player must dress for 40 games in a season to accrue a season for free agency purposes and with only a handful games left in the schedule, this is impossible."

A player needs to accrue 3 seasons of this before being eligible for offersheet and arbitration.

I don't know what to tell you, pretty much everyone agrees this is the rule. The wording might be a little bit confusing, but I do know that 40 games is what hurts you for UFA status, and 10 games is what hurts you for offersheet rights. also don't you need 4 years for arbitration?

I would agree if he wasn't a group 1 RFA. That'll hurt his bottom line. I'm guessing he bridges for 2 years at surprisingly small money.

Maybe I figured arbitration and offersheets went hand in hand, but maybe not. 10 games hurts differently for different players which is cracked.

You're right, it's 10 "NHL Games" per clause 10.2(a)(i)(A) of the CBA and "NHL Games" includes playoffs games. But IIRC he only played 6 games in the playoffs.

He would match it, but the culture in Boston is lower cap hits, at least for now - Marchand, Bergeron, Pastrnak, etc are all on team friendly deals.
