First problem right away is the Carolina can't trade him for a full year after matching the offer. Jury is still out on Suzuki, I watched him in Halifax at the Mem Cup and he does look like he is tentative on the ice. He says that he plays intense but it doesn't really show that way IMO.

The trade is futures for a guy who is a superlative player now. This would be an offer worth consideration if Carolina had just missed the playoffs for the tenth year in a row. But Carolina is only one or two players away from contending for the Cup itself. So it's an easy pass. Now if the offer had been Kotkaniemi instead of Suzuki . . .

I love the fact that the Canes fans talking about a joke of an offer sheet. They low ball every one of their players and are the cheapest team in the league. At least this way they were forced to pay their guy fair value.
