So you plan on getting rid of Barrie and Muzzin ? Who do you plan on signing there instead ? Better be an improvement than ruining it making it worse.

Dermot doesn't get 3.5m on a one year deal. I agree with you 9m or more to fill three Dman spots....not named Muzzin or Barrie.

I say bring back Barrie (6mil-ish), let Sandin fill Muzzin's spot, sign a vet for around 2 mil, and let the prospects battle it out for the last 2 spots.

Annual rotating journeymen D .. yeah that a good strategy to win Cup .. 1 injury or down year from Anderson and Leafs dont even make playoffs

Maybe you're right. But in the 10 years of Hedman with Stamkos, the Lightning have won 9 playoff rounds. Hardly dominant despite all those stars.

I think Barrie will get more tha t6 or 7m from some team. Just don't think it will be the Leafs. As a UFA,...one in thirty one chance of signing him.

I think anything more than 7m would be too much. I'd want the Leafs to try and make him fit, they also have time during this season to extend him. As long as he's being reasonable in his negotiations, things could work out. Maybe he gets more term in exchange for reducing the AAV a bit.

I think once a player gets to be a UFA "reason" can be eliminated in any conversation. Barrie might like being a Leaf, but he will only be here a year. He has deeper roots with other organizations and where he lived for previous 30 years might have bigger influence Leafs/Toronto can. Going to interesting how Barrie performs. He's more known as an offensive player. Can his overall game get him into top 10 or so paid Dmen next season.

Top-10 is a pretty high benchmark. EK, Doughty, Subban, OEL, Carlson, Burns, Hedman, Weber, Byfuglien and Suter. Except for Suter and (possibly) Weber, all those players are better than Barrie. I don't think he should get paid on that level. (Suter is making just over 7.5 and is the #10 highest paid D in the league)

I still think between 6-7 is the right number, puts him near guys like Giordano/Shattenkirk/McDonough, who I think are better comparables for Barrie.

I was more or less showing how much money would be left to sign one of those guys. I think Muzz will cost less but I'd rather have Barrie obviously.

Yeah I think Dermott could get a 4x3.5m or something, I just did one year cause it was easier.
