The fact that he is too old on too high of a contract and the leafs are giving up marner ceci and a 1st for him is far less than unintriguing. This is laughable.

When Drew was an UFA Leafs fans were wetting their pants wanting him. There are so few amount of teams that can take Marner on at his asking price, that is the real joke you should be laughing at.

Also the 1st Rd. pick is tagged as the price of the cash dump for Ceci, Dubas already set that value with his Marleau trade.

Missed the extra first. I thought it was Marner and Ceci for doughty and I think that’s fair given that doughty had an off year

Are you saying Ceci+1st for Doughty? LA wouldn't do that. Doughty is a true #1 d-man on most teams and Ceci is a bottom pairing guy. That's also probably a late 1st.

Marner Offer Sheet.

LA trade Drew to Tor for all 4 of their 1st Rd. picks back and the cash dump Ceci with the 1st Rd. as the sweetener.

Okay, so ...

Marner+Ceci+1st for Doughty? Looks like too much for Toronto to give up. Especially the 5 1sts+Ceci for Doughty. If LA offer sheets Marner at that price Toronto will probably let LA have him and get 5 1sts. Those are probably pretty high 1sts.

I just hope this isn't meant to be realistic.

Is everybody missing the difference in contract lengths>? Drew is signed for 8 yrs, Marner wants only 5, maybe 6 years at the most. The trade reflects the extra 2 seasons more.

So age 35 to 38 where if we’re lucky a broken doughty will be on ltir? Otherwise he will be an anchor. He plays a rugged game and will be good for about another 3-4 years.

I thought the Leafs goal was to win a Cup before Matthews walks away in 5 years (or less) and J.T. needs a walker to play?

If LA wants to offer sheet Marner, they can go for it, but there is absolutely no chance that Toronto trades FIVE 1st Round Picks back the other way to get rid of Ceci and land Doughty.

Ok than, I guess the never ending search for a top pair Dman continues, along with the Stanley Cup drought, have it your way.

I mean, I'm not a Leafs fan, hence my name. I'm coming at this deal from an unbiased perspective, and I can tell you that Drew Doughty is not worth five 1st Round Picks.

Why is Matthews leaving in 5 years? It’s all doom and gloom all the time. Keep adding good players on good contracts and hope you make others. Don’t blow everything up due to paranoia

Matthews is 100% gone when he hit's UFA.

And a few of those picks will be high 1sts most likely.

No, he's not. Maybe, yes. But it's too early to tell.

How is this realistic though? This would never happen. Forget about value completely: What are the chances that anybody gets offer sheeted, the team doesn't match, and then the team trades the picks back to the original team for another player. Seriously? This isn't meant to be realistic, is it?

He's not worth 5 1st Rd. picks, if people were paying attention this is pretty much a sign and trade, L.A. Offer Sheet to get Marner and the Leafs trade back those picks and sent Ceci and a 1st pick for the cash dump market value to get Drew. So it's Marner, Ceci and a 1st for Drew.

Have you heard of Morgan Rielly? Tyson Barrie is also probably a top pairing d-man.
