Leafs and CBJ Trade Proposal

Created by: Trevorchef
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 10, 2019
Published: Jul. 10, 2019

Description
I really doubt that the Jackets would ever consider trading Seth Jones. And I hate the idea of losing Marner, Dermott and Hyman. But, you've gotta give something of value to get something of value. Fire away you faceless internet GM's!!! ;)

Hyman and Jenner are about an even trade. So you're trading Marner...at his minimum of four years of control and minimum five years of control of Dermot for just three years of Jones. Leafs decline easily. Even Jones for Marner....I wouldn't do.
Gee, why have heard for years how good the CBJ defence is Jones, Werenski, Savard and Bobrovsky. Where has it really got them?

you say this but Number 1 defenseman for the LONG TERM is worth more signifcantly than a number 1 rw ESPECIALLY when contracts come into play.

Marner for Jones is fair deal because in Marner you are not getting just the player but the whole thing about him, the name, the personality, the financial options, everything. You would be getting Marner at what, 10-11 per on 7yr deal?.. also 3yrs isnt longterm. Jones would be in high 10s / low 11s range in 3yrs.

Marner has spoken up multiple times that he only wants 3 years. but yeah ide prefer a number 1 dman over a top line winger. if he was a center ide do it but as a winger ide prefer jones.

Disagree. Jones > Marner based on position. The whole name, personality, financial options is a baseless opinion because Jones has just as much name value and better financials - 3 years in the NHL for #1 d-man is absolutely long-term. A team could add a proven veteran on a cup run easily during that time period with the money/term saved (Pavelski, Justin WIlliams, Marleau (didn't work), etc.)

Its not baseless opinion its a fact for smaller market teams like Columbus. When you are acquiring a star name like Karlsson, Burns or now Mitch Marner because he has that star personality despite him being not as star player as his name is. Basically what I meant is that you are acquiring the whole brand not just certain type of player and that player would not only get you on-ice results but also more incomes and GMs count that into value, especially in markets like Columbus and such. Jones is absolutely amazing and I would want him on Leafs every single day of the week for rest of my life because I think he is the best Dman in the league, but Marner for Jones makes sense in terms of overall values. I doubt Columbus trades Jones ever and I doubt Marner is goner from Leafs..

Marner for Jones would be a solid hockey trade. No need to include all those extra pieces, since the Leafs would never agree to including Hyman and Dermott for Boone Jenner.

Jones isn’t going anywhere and neither is Jenner. Not a chance Columbus makes this trade Jones is on a very tram friendly contract at 5.9 mil aav and Marner wants 10+. Columbus can’t swing that with contracts of PLD and Anderson coming up next year as well as other players they need to resign.
