The 2C Nobody is talking about

Created by: RFS_90
Team: 2019-20 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 13, 2019
Published: Jul. 13, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A couple things make sense here:
- Namestnikov appears to be available.
- Chevy is notorious for going against the rumors, and making deals people don't see coming.
- Significant recent trade history with NYR.
- Namesnikov has a terrific 200 ft game, and his season last year is not indicative of his skill level.

He is not a real 2C option. You'd be much better off sticking with Brian Little.

I think you start the season with Roslovic as 2C. Sink or swim for him. If it works, great! If not, you go out and get someone.

I asked some Rangers fans on here, they said he's pretty much just a winger.
He's probably not the answer.

Take a look at this... Given better linemates, I think he absolutely could be the right answer. He seems like the perfect buy-low candidate the Jets should target.

He shoots well, he makes plays, he's physical, kills penalties, great in transition, puck control, and zone entries... He's very good in all situation, but spectacular in none. Seems like exactly the stable, yet creative center Patrik Laine should be playing with.

This is a dumbass idea, not a center. Enjoy missing the playoffs next year, like you Winnipeg people should. Go back to Atlanta.

Except that he's not... Namestnikov had an average year on a bad team.

He's a terrific player, who... on a better team can flourish... like he did in Tampa.

Enjoy the basement of the Central... again. Congrats on bringing back Shaw... Because that has worked so well in the past (Ladd, Saad, etc.)

Watch him play. Even when he’s interested he’s merely average.

Yeah... Who wouldn't want a high-end playmaking center, who is terrific in transition... is able to generate above average high danger scoring chances, is among the league's best in puck possession and shooting percentage. A player who, despite the level of talent on the Lightning roster, is less than 2 seasons removed from being on a line with Stamkos and Kucherov (Playing ahead of Jonathan Drouin).

The problem with Namestnikov is not his skill level... it's been his deployment as a Ranger. Imagine being a skilled forward playing most of your time with Jimmy Vesey and Cody McCleod.

He's the perfect buy-low candidate.

I have watched him play... I've seen him play live. He's unspectacular to watch, because plays safe, intelligent hockey. He's creative without taking risks... He's not going to be Nathan McKinnon or McDavid... but he's the kind of responsible center who should be playing with Laine.

The point I've been trying to make is that he's a great fit for Winnipeg's specific situation.... Not that he's an all-star or whatever, but he does everything Laine doesn't do... he would be the perfect compliment to that brand of player.

Are you even a real team? Where are your banners? You only have buff because we won a cup and faced cap troubles, meanwhile you face cap troubles and haven't done anything besides get your asses wiped by an expansion team in their first year in the playoffs. The wild are in the basement and we were 6 points away from the playoffs. Last year and the year before were your chances, welcome to salary cap hell, and a future of mediocrity because no free agent will ever want to live in Winnipeg. That Canadian streak has a better chance of ending from every other team up there besides Ottawa.

That last sentence may be the dumbest thing I've ever read. To be clear... when the Jets were still the Thrashers, I was a Hawks fan... solely because I went to the same hockey school as Jonathan Toews (from Winnipeg). So, yeah... WPG don't have banners yet... but that's probably the worst chirp of all time lol. I look forward to you being as wrong about their mediocrity as you have been about everything else you've said.

I agree with the Canadian chirp it was purely meant to irk you, but you don't have banners and are more a new 6 team than an original 6 team, but banners are all that matter so good luck with your now borderline playoff team.

Nah, Colorado is the future, Nashville is a bunch of choke artists and you guys are destined for central playoff mediocrity for a couple more years until buff, schiefle and wheeler get old, and hellebuck loses his touch.

Mark Scheifele is 25 years old... lol he's a long way from past his prime. Hellebuyck is the same age (Which is the same age as Jordan Binnington). I'll give you Buff and Wheeler... and Bryan Little I'll add just for fun... but when they move on, that will give WPG an extra 21 Mil in cap space, so I'm not that worried about it. Add that to the natural progression of a deep prospect pool, they should be in good shape.

I will, however, agree that Colorado looks scary.

It would be a gamble, but could certainly work. If he’s in the top 6, I’d keep Vladdy at wing. If he’s on the third line, I would be fine with him at center. But as he played really well with good players in Tampa, I think having Namestnikov as your 2C could work.

Perhaps it's just me being optimistic about my favourite team... but I think it's better than it looks on paper. Niku and Beaulieu are underrated puck movers. Beaulieu struggled in Buffalo.... but who hasn't? lol If they are able to add Honka, I would add him to that list of puck movers. Josh Morrissey is a complete stud. The player I'm concerned the most about is Pionk... his history speaks to a mediocre player, but I'm hoping that having a chance to not play with Marc Staal will pick him up a bit.

Obviously, a lot has to go right with young players... but if it does it could pay off big time. Judging by your avatar, I feel like you know what young puck moving dmen can become wink

Exactly what I was thinking. He had terrific chemistry with Stamkos and Kucherov... Two goal scorers... I think he would fit in nicely with two goal scorers like Connor and Laine.
