if you are going to do it you might as well go 10.5
The real question is would WPG match. he had a down year last year for sure.

Well there's not cap space left to go for that maximum contract with that compensation, but that's a decent idea.

Laine would be a really good offer sheet target for Montreal. Yeah he had a down year, yeah he is a bit one-dimensional, yeah he might be addicted to Fortnite, but the guy has one of the best goal-scoring abilities in the league IMO and he should be a perennial lock to score 30 goals every year. Add in the fact Montreal has a playmaking Finnish center to pair him with, and on paper it seems like a really good idea. The Jets also probably can't match anything over $7-8M unless they get creative. And lastly, I don't want to see him in the Central anymore, we have enough headaches to play against as it is...

Why the hell would Montreal move Petry? Their D is weak enough as is.

Winnipeg should match anything up to 9 or 9.5. Above that it gets tricky.

Winnipeg matches anything that isn’t 4/1sts. Montreal would be much better offering up a package for trade that would suit both teams
