NJD would not take this. Schneider has a bad stretch with injuries but is over that and played very well in 2nd half and at Worlds.

He could easily just get injured again, and hes not getting any younger. His last 2 years were abysmal at best and if NJ wants to make the playoffs, which they should, then i think they should trade for a guy like dubnyk. I wouldn't bet on Blackwood being ready to be a starter already

What do i take out of the trade then. You have to give a decent amount of value because DUbnyk is a good goalie on a solid contract and their taking Schneider's contract

Schneider is fine. His deal is only 1 year longer than Dubnyk. And Blackwood has plenty of time to transition to be starter. NJD are fine at goaltender.

Shero did not give up a first for Gusev which was what the rumor was. He's surely not going to give it and PZ for Dube's. I think the G situation is fine! Schneider did well at end of season, great at the worlds Blackwood too (I believe). I have said in a few threads here trade with Pitt for Tristan Jarry. Shero drafted him and Pens fans are moving him to get rid of Jack Johnson. He's buried by Murray and DeSmith. He can take over for Cory when he goes to Seattle!
A large part of it was also the D which looks very different already! If they don't trade Vats, he will slide over to #1 LHD with PK. Butcher-Sevs at #2 pair, Greene-Smitty at #3 and Carrick/Mueller as the extras. Which will be good bc Greene can get some rest and Smith wont be abused as a rook.

If you are using a 1st it should be for a #1-ish LHD. Nurse is the guy I would like. He's an RFA next yr, held out a little on last contract, mentioned he like the devs as a kid (That's as good as wearing pajamas to me!). our 2020 1st (top 3 protected). Sami Vats retained at 50% (with cond. pick if he does not sign) and Mikey Mcleod (Sedins 2.0 in Edm!) .

Don't think you can call 126 games over 3 seasons a bad stretch.

It was a bad stretch between end of 2017-18 and start of 2018-19. He is fine.

What about the terrible 16-17 season?

He wasn’t terrible. He was on terrible team, but he was pretty solid that year.

Based on the shots he faced he allowed more goals than average goaltending would have.

That happens on bad teams. Look at his 2019 calendar year numbers - between 2nd half in NHL and his play at Worlds. What were those?

Yeah you are right a 17 game sample primarily against non playoff teams is way more likely to predict future performance that a 3 season sample size.

So they should trade him, along with their 3C and a 1st round pick...for another older, declining goalie? No chance whatsoever. They could have signed a handful of goalies a few weeks ago that were better and wouldn’t have cost them any assets. Also, Blackwoood is close to being #1 anyway. Was better than Hart last year. And they have others in pipeline as welll

Jersey makes an overpayment here. I understand it. Upgrade in goaltending. It seems to me the Wild see Dubnyk as their saviour. The club has been a chronically low scoring and they get wins from their stellar goaltending. From the Wild’s prospective, Dubnyk gets them in the playoffs, Schneider doesn’t.

Cory, once coveted as a premier goaltender, seems to have lost confidence. I hope he can bounce back. Blackwood was solid last year, and will see more action this year. I think the Devils will give Blackwood every opportunity to be #1, before they consider a goaltending change via a trade.

I think Cory will bounce back enough to stay, and Blackwood will take a large enough step forward to start. Cory will never be what he was, but he will be better than what he has been this last couple of years. The surgery he had was a major deal for a goaltender. Also I wouldn't want Dubnyk in any deal.
