1.
TBL
  1. Barberio, Mark ($450,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Avs could use a 3rd goalie in the AHL with NHL back up experience, Domingue is on the outs and Tampa is trying to find him a new home.

Sens Barbs retained so Tampa still gets some cap savings with this move, either on roster or AHL, gives them a depth Dman they are familiar with
2.
COL
  1. Shattenkirk, Kevin
Additional Details:
hopefully its in the 4.5m range but you can offer him a 1 year 6m deal at the max to come back, prove himself on a better team situation here as soon as he is bought out.

I think shatty all depends on how Timmins looks. If he can make the jump to the NHL next season then the right side is set with makar EJ and him. If he needs a year in the AHL then i could see us giving him a one year deal since we a low on the right side

I doubt Domingue clears waivers, but this trade would definitely have to be after that happens.

oh yeah there is big waiver issues with that one, especially if a team has goalie injuries at camp. You saw that last year with the Leafs.

I just dont see the Avs rolling with 3 rookies on the opening night roster in Makar, Byram, and Timmins. 1 year of Shatty as a safety net as a RHS to balance out the NHL roster, I think its an interesting idea to explore at least.

I was thinking about that Shattenkirk option as well. Good option with the current depth at RD. I'd rather put Shattenkirk on the 3rd pair than Connauton. I think he'll take way less than that 6.65M because of the buyout.

Domingue trade looks fine. Risky player to trade for because of waivers but Barberio is worth the risk with the depth at LD.

Oh I know, Shatty would be less than his current cap hit, but he hasnt been offically bought out so I couldnt sign him for less and just wanted to see technically even if he doesnt take a pay cut (which he will as a buy out) there is room to sign him after Rants.

Give him a 1 year 5m-6m at the max deal if you have to, but key is 1 year

need to shed the most money off the books possible for this season.

Shatty is a 1.4m buyout cap hit 5.16m in savings
Staal is 2.9m buyout cap hit 2.8m in savings
Smith is 970k buyout cap hit 3.4m in savings

New coach new gm since then, they are changing direction so I get that things like buying out guys can happen in a changing of the guard but feels like they could have avoided this

I'd pass on Shattenkirk tbh, especially at that money (and I realise you couldn't sign him at less yet). I'd give him a 1-2mil take it or leave it 1 year offer to prove himself, IF I were signing him. Rather give someone like Graves or Timmins a chance and send Byram back to juniors.

I'd have preferred the Avs to make a trade for Namestnikov to boost the wing. If he bounced back great and if not he's 1 year til UFA, so it's only a small gamble if it doesn't pay off as you won't be trading much for him. Pick up Georgiev with him as the back up option in the AHL.

the money is irrelevant on a 1 year deal, thats the whole point of the roster.

wasting assents on Namestnikov is the last thing the Avs should do, he isnt anything different than the avs already have and just makes a mess of the middle 6 that already has a lot of question marks of who is getting ice time where.

A stop gap on the right side in Shatty makes more sense. Byram is getting his 9 games and going back, thats going to be a lock with the current D glut on the Left side, especially when you have cole in the mix to return mid season.

After Makr and EJ....its Timmins Meloche as the next on the Right hand depth chart...and you know EJ is going to be hurt at some point. Dont force Timmins up so fast and dont make a guy play their offside if you dont have to

For sure I'd start Timmins in the AHL to give him some time to get back to game ready, but I'd certainly rather take an extended look at Graves, or even another look at Alt if you want a righty as it's third pairing, and there was little point in them acquiring Connauton if you don't take a look at him.

You aren't going to waste much on Namestnikov and he can either fill the second line RW or LW spot and isn't actually bad on the PK from what I remember. You're also going to pick up your #3 goalie.

I just don't think Shattenkirk is worth it, with the glut of D, many of whom you're going to want to at least take a look at.

Rosen is really the one that would be impacted. I dont think thats an issue having Shatty on the roster upgrading over Barbs/Graves etc on teh depth chart and rangers arent trading Georgiev
Namestnikov is just more of the same, if if you are concerned about blocking Dmen with Shatty, Namestnikov blocks Kaut/Bowers/Greer/Kamanev as well,

Yes Rosen could be another that's in with a shot, but that just shows the glut being even bigger, plus, as far as I can recall Rosen is yet another lefty thus negating your argument of needing a righty. The Rangers could easily move Georgiev, as according to most Rangers fans, Shesterkin is the future, and there are plenty of other possibles they could bring in as back up. Georgiev would be to make the Namestnikov dump work. Out of the wingers you listed, and Kamenev is a centre, he's the only one who I'd be looking at this season. Kaut & Bowers are future and Greer I believe there is every likelihood will be in gaol.
