Final moves for balance and wiggle room

Description
Maybe a better deal out there for little Willie, but this gets the D in order. Not sure if Paul & Mitchell will hold out for more then what I'm offering, but seems teams too shy to offer sheet so lets play hardball.

He is not overpaid. Last year, after his slump, he was on Pace for 69 points, and 100000 per point is good

But miraculously he managed to finish the year with 7g and 27 p? Must have been quite a long slump.

I think Hank is onto something here:

But what do I know? I'm the guy who said last summer that Nylander, taken off of Matthews' line, wasn't any better than Andre Burakovsky, who finished last season with 26 points, in the Caps' bottom six. Nylander had one more point. And only five fewer goals. Clearly much more talented. smile smile smile smile smile

It's called a holdout and Burakovsky played 22 more games. I would strongly urge you to look at “larger sample sizes" when comparing players.

look at nylander's stats the last three years. He had a 20 game slump. thats why his stats look bad.

This is a good point, because if I was debating Nylander's value on here last summer, I probably don't know about the times he got almost as many points as Matthews, by playing with Matthews all year.

No. Players hold out and stay in shape, all the time, by doing this stuff called exercise. Nylander posted beach pics during his vacation, while Kapanen took his spot and started the year with ten points in ten games. At the time, I thought Nylander was exactly worth Pesce, straight up. Things changed.

Nylander was working out and skating in Sweden during the holdout, however, the league gets faster and faster every year. I'm not saying I completely disagree with what you're saying... Just that we should wait till this year to see what he can do. If a deal were to take place now we should look at the complete sample size instead of the most recent unless the player in question is older i.e. nearing the end of their prime, although this trade would never happen in a million years.

I meant you're wrong but sure. Matthews started with Marleau and Ennis for around 5 games so kapanen did not get 10 points in his first 10 games. Hayes just got over 7 million and has a career high of 55 points at age 27. Nylander already has two 61 point seasons by 22 so he didnt forget how to play hockey while he sat out. How did gudreau do in the season he sat out? He had an off year so clearly missing training camp and playing with very weak linemates doesnt help your production.

Yeah what the heck? Pesce for Nylander straight up is one thing. The league has been kind to the Leafs by trading them both Muzzin and Barrie, we can't ask for much more at a discounted price.
Maybe Nylander + Bracco + 4th. That would be worth discussing...

I think the Nylander rumors started because Carolina wanted a Swedish-speaking winger to play with their underperforming second liners Elias Lindholm (Now with Cgy) and Victor Rask (Now with Min). The Hurricanes were also worried they didn't have enough offense to make the playoffs. Spoiler alert: last season, the Hurricanes got the 16th most goals in the NHL and made the playoffs. They might still get interested if you can teach him to speak Finnish, though?

Edited to add: there were also brief, ridiculous Nylander to Washington rumors last summer, based on Nylander's dad having been linemates and pals with Nick Backstrom. That was totally unrealistic because the Caps couldn't afford Nylander at a likely $6M cap hit. Now that his cap hit is $7M, and the Caps just had to give away Niskanen and Burakovsky to get under this fall's cap, I think it's still probably not happening.

Hayes plays a 200 foot game, dominates on faceoffs, led the Rangers' forwards in PK time on ice for the last five years, and never played on a line with anyone who's had an eighty point season the year before or after, just by not playing with Hayes.

You're right about Kapanen. He was pointless in his first two games, then got ten points in the next ten, including eight points in a stretch of just five games, to make him one of the only NHLers over a point a game through his first seven, last fall. So while I'm clearly not a real Leafs fan, I'm not sure Ennis held onto his top line spot for quite five games. The couple Leafs games I saw in October featured constant lineup changes, and experimentation. http://www.espn.com/nhl/player/gamelog/_/id/3114775/kasperi-kapanen
