@Trickster @BurgerBoss @oneX

Perhaps a hypothetical would help here.

Suppose Anaheim had a fourth defenseman -- a very good RhD. Let's call him Carlo Pulock. Now the Ducks have a choice of protecting three of these four defensemen. If the choice is between Fowler and Manson, I think they keep Fowler unless they can make a favorable trade for him.

What about my point regarding the contract signings of Fowlrr and Manson???

Fowler signed July 2017 for money and term.
Manson signed October 2017 for less money and less term.

These are facts just like stats.
I agree Manson is better overall, but does Ducks managment think that?
Contracts say no.

Is the trade horrible move for the Ducks btw???
They got 2 roster players, prospect and a 1st.

Manson is two months older than Fowler.

The point isnt the age its the length of the contract and its value. Read my comments i
Never mentioned that manson is younger.

Fowler's extremely unlikely to get traded, as he has that M-NTC with 4 team trade list. I'd protect Manson, but that's just my opinion.

Your opinion has no less weight than mine. I hope it doesn't come down to seeing which one of us is "right" because I like both players -- a lot. But the NTC thing is irrelevant because regardless of which 4 teams those are, once solicited, each one would make Anaheim a substantial offer for Fowler, so if push comes to shove (say, Murray does some magic and acquires John Klingberg, ha ha ha), I think Fowler brings more on the open market than Manson.

Expansion draft happens before UFA signings start.
Dermott will be protected along with Rielly and Manson.

So then you leave them to attempt to have the perfect contract negotiations?

I don't think it's a "horrible" move, without context, but it's not the move I would make. Assuming Anaheim felt that Manson was expendable (i.e., ignoring their glaring weakness behind Manson at RhD), I would prefer Dermott, Liljegren, Bracco and the first. And if you were going to take something out of that, I would forego Bracco. The Ducks have enough forwards, including young ones with great upsides (Kase, Comtois, Steel, Terry are A-plus prospects in my opinion, then there are A prospects like Jones, Sprong and Sherwood, and then there are the recent draftees like Lundestrom, Groulx, Zegras and Tracey).

You made the point that Fowler would be turning 30. I made the point that this is irrelevant. Moreover, Fowler's contract, being longer, is a more fixed expense than Manson's over the same time frame.

Expansion draft is in June.
Trade was done 19/20 as indicated above.

Teams can only protect 3 D man.

Dermott is an RFA, Hamonic is UFA.
When do UFA signings start????

I failed to understand where you are going.

That's not what you posted first.
You commented about who the Leafs protect at the expansion draft.

See below.

So they would expose Dermott then instead? The trade literally does not make sense

I think you failed to understand when the draft is and when the trade happened.

ANA won't move Manson. Especially if the return is including a hot garbage D.

You trade for Manson because you think think that he would have to be exposed, yet you trade them Dermott as a main piece which is terrible value. So they would then have to protect a defenseman after trading the better defenseman?

Irrelevant because you value more fowler than manson. Fowler will turn 30 and will be making 6,5 millions. That a lot for a guy that never add more than 40 point. And he add play only one full season. He won’t turn into bobby orr now so why would
Anaheim protect him over guehle lindholm manhura, larson. I’m not even sure they will protect manson over those young defenseman. They loose a pretty damn good
One to vegas i think they’ve learn there lesson.

Your comment is unintelligible. He's trading us Ceci, whom we would certainly not have to protect.

They didn't "lose" Theodore to Las Vegas. They gave Theodore and Clayton Stoner to Las Vegas so that they wouldn't lose Brandon Montour, who at the time was considered a better prospect than Theodore. And Fowler's offensive upside is much higher than Manson's. I know. I've watched every single game each one of them has played in the NHL.

How about reading an ACGM fully before making comments? I know...novel concept...it works, mostly.

By the way, all, back in November I posted a thread about the best game any defenseman would have in 2018-2019. Here it is: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/908148

At the time, several clowns pooh-poohed the claim, but even though 70% of the season remained, I was right.

This is why I'm a Fowler guy.

Props to the guy for owning up. Do I need to remind everyone I once traded Erik Karlsson to Miami so that Mrs. Karlsson could renew her acquaintance with Mrs. Hoffman?

They gave him, they loose him, they whatever you want. They protected fowler over theodore and now they have to live with that. Since they are rebuilding i don’t think they will
Do the same a last time. They will protect their young blueliner and take a guest that seattle won’t take fowler or manson. Actually if seattle follow what vegas did they won’t turn there choice on player that are 30. Players like
Subban weber even burns in san jose ( i know he got nmc) aren’t that interesting. I don’t see anaheim as contender for next few season. I really don’t see why anaheim would take a
Chance to loose young defenceman because it exactly what seattle would be looking for!

Well, then, we return to the premise of this team construction (lest we forget), which was that in order to protect against losing either Fowler or Manson for nothing in the expansion draft in June 2021, Anaheim should trade Manson this season. And I think that we have a fair consensus that this move would be premature, at best, in light of Anaheim's horrible weakness at RD even with Manson.
