It also puts TBL over the cap. This is a terrible idea.

I’m sure they would seeing how it’s ridiculous.

Gretzky was traded with 2 all-stars and did not get half of that. He isn’t Gretzky.

Isn't McDavid having knee issues?
Man if his career is already wrecked he's going to be pissed at that team.

Gretzky was also trade for 15 mil cash back in the day, we can’t quote weird/ poor trades as examples. I can’t use the Karlsson trade to value other guys in the league

Honestly I don't think Tampa would hate this. They might be over the cap but they'd figure it out pretty quick to make it work. The difference in skill between Point and McDavid as a #1 C is worth the higher cap hit. Sergachev is a great player but is firmly behind Hedman and McDonagh at this stage and will be expecting a big raise next year which is hard to justify as your 3 LD. Cirelli seems like a pretty good C but its hard to evaluate how much he brings to the table when every line in front of him looks like the Monstars from Space Jam. He could just be beating up on weak competition. Cal Foote seems like a great prospect but what he is at the NHL level is still a big question mark. Vancouver's pick is protected so the rest of the package is mid to late round picks.

For Tampa the trade would work out as their 1st and 4th line C, 3LD, prospect, mid round 1st, and a late 2nd and 3rd round picks for the undisputed best player in the world right now. Brisebois would do it

Overpay for McDavid.

Far from an overpay but teams still shouldn’t give up this much for one player

But a trade for someone who is going to be the best player in the world for the next 15-20 years, you’re going to have to give up your left nut and both kidneys if you want him right now.

Maybe not 20 but He’s only 22. Not out of this world to think he’ll still be at least a top 3 player when he’s 37.

Crosby is only 32 and he hasn't been considered the consensus best in the world for a couple of years now so just going off of that...

It’s an overpay. Point, Sergachev, two 1sts, is about right.

Again i use Gretzky as an example. He was traded with 2 all-stars, Krushelnyski, McSorley for Carson, Gelinas, three 1sts, 15m in cash. MK and MM were worth Gelinas and a 1st easily, leaving Carson, two 1sts and 15m for Gretzky.

Yes there were special circumstances. And no Edmonton did not get enough in return. The total package was about right for Gretzky, they threw the other 2 in for free basically.

Not a fair comparison considering the circumstances but again McDavid is not Gretzky.

As far as on ice production the difference between Point and McJesus was 24 assists last year. Is 24 assists worth Sergachev, Foote, Cirelli, 1st, 2nd, 3rd? It is not to me.

McDavid is a game changer, a generational talent. Point is just a very good player in comparison. McDavid can make players around him better, not sure Point can do that.

But in the end you are paying a premium for the name and hype when the on ice production of what you are getting compared to what you are giving up is clearly not worth it.

Crosby was the best when he was 18. Analytics still say Crosby is the best. So you can argue he’s been the best for 14 years.

Gretzky got traded when he was 28. McDavid is only 22. If Gretzky was 22 he would’ve gotten a much bigger return.

If McDavid was 28, then yes—point, sergachev, 1 and 2 would be fair. But when he’s arguably #1 in the league right now (he is in my opinion) and he’s as young as he is, it’s going to take a ton, like the trade offer in this AGM. Not to mention, Edmonton doesn’t want to trade him and has no reason to trade him, whereas the oilers traded Gretzky because they were unsure about being able to re-sign him that upcoming offseason.

So all in all, it’s not a very fair comparison. Gretzky was a 28 year old pending UFA who the oilers were willing to trade. McDavid is 22 and locked up for the next 7 years and the oilers have done nothing to make it seem like they’d be willing to trade him.

Gretzky was still putting up bigger point toals at 28 than McDavid ever has. As i said the circumstances were completely different.

The Oilers have no reason to trade McDavid. Gretzky’s Oilers did.

But if the Bolts offered that they would be crazy to turn it down. Bolts would be crazy to offer it. ??‍♂️

Exactly, that’s why McDavid is untradeable right now. Oilers shouldn’t accept anything less, meanwhile nobody should offer that much for 1 player.

Tampa wins this, big time. It's not even close. Yeah, sometimes Point played first line, but when the second line center is STAMKOS, first line center is a low-pressure gig. Also, I heard he had some decent wings, maybe?

That's what Edmonton needs to try: wings.
