The point is... the pros are right more often than fans... hence why they are in the business

Have you seen the movie 'Money Ball', the Pros think they know, but they don't know, they don't. It's a job based on the law of averages; 7 out of 10 players, (not a true stat); will end up becoming the player they think he will and then you draft a player the 5th round who's better, who knew....not the pros!
Gretzky was the best player to play the game so that makes him the best candidate to coach....oh wait a sec.

habs had him ranked #10 not like they had the kid ranked super high either

Well this comment is in the top 10 of the most stupid I read on this site. I would say it's pretty high.

lmao it got leaked today... you should know that being a habs fan

No, it wasn't. It was a prediction of the order of selection by teams. You should stick to the NFL.

Not equal in terms of ages here though...

Cole Caufield
D.O.B. Jan 2 2001
2017-19 - 16-18 years old

Phil Kessel
D.O.B. Oct. 2 1987
2003-05 - 16-18 years old

Patrick Kane
D.O.B. Nov. 19 1988
2004-06 - 16-18 years old

Auston Matthews
D.O.B. Sept 17, 1997
2013-15: 16-18 years old

Seems like the only thing Cole Caufield is lacking, is being taller than 5'-7".

The pros had Cole 15th best in his draft year...isn't that all the more reason of why fans should be excited?

money ball was also extremely over the top, in terms of what actually happened, but yes he did change the game...

and yes Gretzky was the best player and one of the worst coaches in history.. im not saying he is a good hockey management pro though....

And know one knows whose gonna be a top notch player, but the pros have alot better idea of it.

I just know that Kane and Matthews didn't play with the USNDP in their draft years. Kessel didn't either.

Ok, so those numbers were rounded off by accident. But should have been:

Caufield: 18 years 6 months at the end of the final USNDP season.
Kessel: 17 years 9 months at the end of the final USNDP season.
Kane: 17 years 7.5 months at the end of the final USNDP season.
Matthews: 17 years 9.5 months at the end of the final USNDP season.

So Caufield benefitted from being up to 9 months older, but still the least physical by a large margin. I am not going to discount his broken records/goal scoring pace on a few months. There have been plenty of older players than Caufield that never came close to these accomplishments.

Yeah I definitely wasn't trying to negate your point. Just trying to share more context.

Cheers CBJ4CUP to the opinionated posts without any cheep shots, not found often on site!

The point is Caufield seems to be a pure goal scorer to which MTL hasn't seen in a while. Hughes was drafted #1 but most of his points came off the stick of Caufield buring the puck in the net. MTL has lots of play makers but need a kid to shoot the puck. Cole is that kids so yes we are excited about him and he has show some elite skills.
They had better not rush him into the league though and ruin his confidence or whatever gets ruined, I like KK but think he could have used a year in Laval; IMO.

Yeah, I didn't think you were. Was just trying to be accurate as to the situation. It's all good.

Just like with any prospect, how can anyone say this definitively? That's why every fan base gets so hyped about prospects, precisely because no one knows.

Weirder things have happened than Caulfield, a 1st round pick who was widely regarded as one of the best goal scorers in the draft, being a prolific goal scorer.

You’re right. He could develop into an elite player. After all he’s just a prospect. I just see him as a product of his environment. If he went to Edmonton for example, he’d have a much better chance at hitting 40 goals than in Montreal

Playing with McDavid? Umm yeah, I think that's pretty safe to say of any player man hahaha

With that said, if Jason Blake can score 41, I'm not gonna write off Caulfield just yet.

I think he’ll be a 30 goal guy personally. Doubt he’ll have the highs as patches. But you have to admit, so many bias Habs fans are over rating him.

Since when is a 30 goal guy not amazing? Patches never hit 40 so if we're talking about a difference of a few goals between the two, big whoop. If he can be regular 30 goal scorer, I think thats amazing.

Are there Habs fans saying he'll score 60 goals or something? if they are, these are not the people you should be listening to anyways. Its the same ones who think they can trade Hudon and a 6th for Brodie....... you know..........because................CAP SPACE! rolling eyes

With that said, I don't think anyone can say Caulfield won't score 40+ either though. He has great scoring ability very reminiscent of Debrincat so I think closing the book on him being elite isn't that fair either.

Its difficult for some people to see/hear others be excited about their prospects that have a lot of promise. Also, they pretend like Caulfield breaking records held by Kessel, Kane, Matthews is no big deal. So I think they are underrating him just as much as some are overrating him.
