Marner on a 3 year bridge and gets more than matthews when cap is higher in 3 years provided he continues to I prove. Bet on himself. As for 4th line and spares it'll be close to this but training camp and injuries will have the final say

From the Leafs POV, of Marner wants to bet on himself, his contract for three years it should lower than Aho's 8.45m X 5 years......hence the impasse between Leafs and Marner.

Should.....but it won't be. Marner's AAV will start with a 9.

Let's say the Leafs top offer for a three year contract is 8.5m. What are Marner's options? Until Marner gets an NHL offer better than Leafs, the only option Marner has to to without his services from the Leafs (and all NHL teams) and play in Europe. That might get him the equivalent of 2m a year, not 9m.

Maybe that's what all these GM's are saying to these brats, 'this is what we have to offer so take it or go play in the KHL'.

"Brats" might be a little tough, but idt seems to be the way the new NHL is going. Top end players are getting a bigger piece of the pie. Not that I blame Marner and others for getting as much as they can, but they really aren't taking money from the owners, they are squeezing the lower end players.
I'm not really a socialist, but it seems kinda "unfair" in a team sport where the minutes for each player is somewhat the same, that some players are getting so much more than others.

I very much agree, not much for spreading the wealth in the NHLPA, what bothers me the most about all the wealth flowing to the players at the top is that they're also the ones that get endorsement deals which is more money for them, the guys in the middle and at the bottom rarely if ever get those added perks.

Kids rarely idolize the Hyman's and Brown's, they want to be like Matthews.

Nothing from stopping them from effectively capping the apparent salary growth for rfa's. Marner could be made an example of with but a few phone calls.
