Habs are the obvious Choice for Laine

Created by: Subbanator7667
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 5, 2019
Published: Sep. 5, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In my opinion Winnipeg will look for that balance of wanting to win now and still have a few pieces for the future out of this Laine trade. This is what I think the Habs could offer to fill both those needs. The biggest thing with this trade is that the Habs future is going to hinder a lot on the salary cap increasing, to keep Laine you need KK to take a sweet deal, Alzners contract needs to be paid to get out of town and Domi will likely have to be signed for under $8 million which isnt happening. So its a good idea but fat would need to be trimmed.

That's not even close. Add Evans and another pick and maybe the Jets accept.

Laine isn't worth 4 first round picks which is what an offer sheet would be, this is as close to that as you can get without actually giving up 4 first round picks.

No Domi. No Drouin. No premium prospect. No chance.

Laine to Montreal trades have become more numerous and annoying than Pesce to Leafs were last year. I hope the Jets sign him soon so we can end this nonsense. Lol.

Domi is an easy no for MTL

Danault is more valuable then Drouin

Primeau and Juulsen are both good prospects, not premium but future NHLers

2nd rounder could be a 2021 1st

Difference is that Laine has said some questionable things in interviews, and they have remained far apart in contract talks.

And IF they trade him they will be able to write their own ticket. 30 team will want him. They will dictate terms and get what they want. This is not it or even close.

Ok but then teams still have to sign him. If he wants over $9 million that window of teams drops to maybe 10, then you have to find the best value for him. Habs are one of the few teams that have depth at Winnipegs weaknesses and can provide both win now roster players and future prospects.

The Habs are not the obvious choice to land Laine. I believe the Jets would be looking for young controllable pieces, specifically defenders and ideally assets that would be exempt from Seattle's expansion draft. I think the most "obvious choice" destination is Edmonton except for that fact that they are in a perpetual and ever-lasting rebuild.

Except they have no cap space, are in the western conference and don't have the prospect depth to give multiple pieces away for Laine. I also don't think Winnipeg wants only young pieces, they are a team that considers themselves contenders and would likely want players to keep them there and not wait to win.

An Oilers deal would involve Bouchard, Nurse and other pieces. That would not only fill some of the hole left by Trouba, but Bouchard is exempt from an expansion draft. Cap wouldn't be a concern if these 2 teams were serious about dealing, but like I said, Edmonton is an ever-lasting rebuild so trading their top D away for Laine (who would probably score 50 goals a season playing with McDavid) is not the way to go.
