Ottawa didn't want to pay Stone, they certainly won't pay Laine

Ottawa are really high on him. Plus trading for laine now doesn’t make sense for ottawa who will not be legit contender until 3 years. Ottawa have rebuilt their team around a very solid blue line prospect pool with chabot, brannstrom, bernard docker and thomson

These latest Laine rumours are showing me just how unbelievably delusional WPG fans are. Who knew ?

Stone over Laine right now. If Ottawa wanted to win, they would keep Stone instead of trading the main asset they received for him to get Laine.

Sure Stone was better. He was also a pending UFA, so his trade value was lower than Laine's.

Equally offset by teams, believing random scraps would scoop laine. There abundance of team control on laine, so there’s going to be something shiny coming back or it’s not getting done, not a bunch of depth forwards and or bottom pairing blue liners.

????. The concept of being a UFA, is that players can sign with whatever team they want. The only way Ottawa could have "kept Stone" if they have overpaid him. Losing players to free agency isn't the teams fault. it's the players choice. Fact is the Sens weren't doing that well even with Stone, Karlsson, and Duchene. Gee, they got young assets from those trades and if eventually they spend some close to the cap, the Sens can be a good team again.

Stone was gonna be a free agent at 27 years old when the team clearly wanted to blow it up. Laine is the same age as the Sens young core and even younger than Chabot and WHite

Vegas wouldn't give Brannstrom for a rental. Deal was in place. Stone was trade for full value.

It was also the last hour before the deadline ended so the full value wasn't exactly full value.

Potential to become an Elite puck moving defensman. Top 2 in any NHL teams when in his prime.

I doubt it. He can't defend well enough at the NHL level to be a 1st pairing guy - and his puck skills aren't elite, either.

Your opinion must be better than all the dudes who are payed to evaluate prospect since many years now. Sens wantend Brannstrom in the package for Karlsson when discussing with vegas before any 1st round pick or any prospect. Brannstrom is going to be a top pair defense in any team.

I see his ceiling as 2nd pairing and PP guy - I don't think he'll even be as good as Chabot and I don't think he'll ever be able to defend well enough to be a 1st pairing guy.

Not being better than Chabot doesn't mean he wont be a top pairing guy. Chabot is on another level

I don't think I should have to explain my position to you, too. Just read my posts.

From what ive seen of him so far, hes a good defender and plays the corners. I havent seen anything from him that shows defensive deficiencies. Its all in the head because of his size. Erik Karlsson had some defensive issues and was always a #1 D, with the right partner anyone can be great
