This is tough because you're comparing a guy with one year of success who is likely going to get even better, with guys who have had years of success already. If we're talking about potential then I'd take him over a bunch of guys here, but just for a year I don't think you can justify taking Miro over any of those guys, although some of the matchups are close.

I’m a supporter of defensive defence man, I’ve watched Vlasic for years and heard years and hundreds of people give Vlasic flak, especially when he makes team canada because it’s “oh whos that guy oh 20 PTS yikes Subban has 60” or whatever, Norris voting is hugely about points now and it “shouldnt” be, Burns won and I’m so happy he won a Norris but he really didn’t “deserve” it as Karlsson and Doughty were also great that year and you can say both were very good defensively

Yes but that’s why I said I expect Karlsson to bounce back cause I think he can and he’s still quite good on down years. Not in his last few playoff games but overall he logs a ton of minutes.

If it’s like November and Karlsson is showing signs of issues than instantly (similar to Burns) I’m gonna Ben worried. Except Karlsson is a real superstar and I think he’s under a proper system now, he doesn’t have to carry the whole team like he does with Ottawa and there was times in San Jose you watch him and you see he’s trying to play like he’s still on Ottawa right? Maybe you noticed that too maybe you didn’t I can’t blame you. But I think he’s starting to understand he doesn’t have to be the team on San Jose because he has one all around him. In Ottawa he had to be the THE IT guy every night; and watching him throughout the year he would try to be sometimes and it wouldn’t work because San Jose isn’t Ottawa.

Kinda like Shea Weber to make it related to your team. I think I’d change my option and chose Weber over Miro after relooking because I committed quite fast. Weber really impacts Montreal. I’d keep my choice over Subban and maybe change over letang. And Reilly although amazing and I hold him really Highly, I think Miro can achieve what rielly has much faster.

All those defenseman played around 25 min karlsson burns weber suter subban giordano. They are all extremely reliable assets for their respective team. Logging top minutes against top players, something heiskanen hasn’t done yet. He will eventually get better then everyone on that list bit he isnt there now. I would rank vlassic ahead of miro. I mean they did a great job last season putting him in advantages situation. But a guy like vlasic goes
On ice every single time a mcdavid or a crosby or a kane or a mackinon jump on ice. Even with a slight drop in their game burns and weber and giordano will got the edge over heiskanen for the next two three year. Experience at dman position its something only time can learn you

Vlasic is extremely underrated, yeah his contact is kinda scary but man he did amazing against mackinnon and has always done well when he’s needed in the playoffs.

He will be a reason why Karlsson improves this year I think, finding consistency

He is the patrice bergeron of the defenceman! He is never out of position. If the was a doig harvey award he would have won it a few time

Suter Vlasic Weber Brodin Ellis/Ekholm to name a few contenders, I really wish there was a way to honour both kinds of defenders because of there being such a split, like a guy like burns who impacts the game drastically/ like very few offensively but is average/ mediocre defensively; or inconsistent defensively. Whereas Brodin or Pesce may not impact the game offensively but defensively they are game changers. But Norris is just who can be okay/ good defensively and put up 70+ points

They spoke about it a few years ago, i do think it would be a good idea. If there a selke why not a doug harvey trophy. Those players like you said impact the game big time but not on the score sheet.

I think they could, I mean eventually I see awards names changing and possibly additions. Maybe some will be added after the new CBA who knows. I think if there’s a selke as you said it really makes sense to add a “Doug Harvey” because we have the rocket Richard/ art ross so why not a similar defence award. Than like the offence award can be Bobby Orr or Paul Coffey. Than we can still use Norris as most valuable defence man like the ted Lindsay or hart etc.
