3x9 is still an overpayment, but i'm guessing if he does sign, it'll be for this. Greedy son of a.....

Hell obvs get a very high qualifying offer to go with it too like 12 or higher

From the get go it was clear he just wanted the Matthews deal, and now that is exactly what has come to light. 5 years, 11.634 per, and he’s yours

The Leafs screwed themselves by giving that to Matthews. Matthews has the best player friendly contract in the league even better than McDavid. 5 years x 11.5 >>>> 8 years x 12.5

Hes not taking 6-8 years no matter what. Its either gonna be a 3 year deal with 12 mill qualifying offer or a 5 year deal at Matthews AAV

Honestly, I think the McDavid situation is scaring rfas into shorter deals more than any cap increase. Remember EDM was coming off a playoff run and looked good going forward, at least on the surface anyway. While the leafs are a much deeper team than the Oilers were there is always a non zero chance any team turns into **** going forward, so the mid term deal will rein supreme
