It's been screaming 12 mill on an 8 year deal for a while, fans on here just don't want to pay stars star money unless it's a different team doing it. Marner's deal ended any chance Point would get a small contract. I'd wager a bridge for Point would be 2 years with the second year being well over 10 million average. It's a new world, and teams can't afford to give guys like Killorn and Palat 5+ million.

wing with two 55 point seasons

Well, to begin with you don't take into account Boeser's games played. Boeser has played a total of 140 NHL games and got 116 points. 0.83 points per game.
So, he's not your mediocre 50 points winger, he's one of the two best players in Vancouver.

Ok fine.. .8 pts per game ... do same for Point .. 1.2 pts per game .. NOT saying Broeser not good player he just isnt Point .. and why Vancouver didn't lock him up long term is bigger question

Point wants to play hockey and supposedly rejected an offer-sheet to stay with Tampa. We don’t have the cap for a deal like Marner’s overpayment, so we can’t give that to Point. Palat was well worth his $5.3m at the time and probably will prove that he still is if he’s not dealing with injuries all season again, and Killorn is relatively close to market value. This site is becoming more and more ridiculous by the day, it would seem. We are absolutely not in a new universe where you have to overpay stars and fill a bottom nine with ELCs or cheap fillers because you can’t afford decent depth players. That’s how you ruin a team; look at the Oilers with McDavid and Draisaitl (not that they’re overpaid, but that’s what happens when you don’t have the solid depth you need).

Point is worth more than Boeser, but how would Boeser at $5.8m undermine Point at like $6.5m? He’d probably have like $9m or $10m at the end, but he will absolutely be worth that in the end.

I think Point will also end up around 6.5x3, maybe 6.75. This gives Tampa enough room to pay out key performance bonuses this year and still have a little room at the tdl. Point is not 1.2 ppg either. As mentioned, Boeser has 116 points in 140 games, or .83 ppg average. Point has 198 points in 229 games, for a .87 ppg average. They are also comparable in goals per game average, with Boeser at a .42 rate(59 goals in 140), and Point at .40(91 goals in 229 games). Point had one big season which will push his overall aav up, but on a bridge, something in the ~6.5 range is fair. After the 3 year bridge he will get his 10+ and become the Lightning's highest paid player, without a doubt.

Couldnt agree more. Just cause Marner held the leafs hostage and got a big overpay doesn't mean that every other team is going to capitulate and follow suit by over paying their rfas. Each team has their own context and a different set of circumstances.

I find it hard to believe that Point will beat Kucherov's contract by much, if anything. How we're in a new world when Kucherov's deal is just kicking in, and after scoring a haul of hardware, is beyond me.

It could happen I suppose, but I see guys sitting, or getting traded before alot of GMs bend a knee.
